Seattle Mariners manager Scott Servais said that second baseman Jorge Polanco (hamstring) will be available off the bench, if needed, against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Josh Rojas is making another start at second base and will bat leadoff for the M's versus Yankees right-hander Marcus Stroman. Polanco is missing a fourth straight game due to a right-hamstring issue, but it appears he's getting close to a return and should avoid a trip to the injured list. The 30-year-old Dominican veteran has had a rough start to his first year in Seattle, as he's currently slashing .192/.298/.308 with five homers, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored in 146 at-bats. Rojas has exceeded expectations offensively for the M's but has come back down to Earth a bit in his last five games with just one hit and seven strikeouts in his 21 plate appearances.
Seattle Mariners second baseman Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Sunday against the Orioles in Baltimore. It will be the fifth straight game that Polanco has missed with a hamstring injury that could very well land him on the injured list. Outfielder Jonatan Clase, the team's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is on the team's taxi squad right now and could join the active roster if Polanco lands on the injured list. On top of his injury, the 30-year-old Polanco has been a huge disappointment in his first year in Seattle, hitting just .192 (28-for-146) with five home runs, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored in 41 games played. Josh Rojas is getting another start at second base and is hitting leadoff against Orioles right-hander Corbin Burnes. Rojas is hitting .111 in nine career at-bats against Burnes. The 29-year-old is bound to cool off at the plate, but there's no ignoring the fact he's currently hitting .311 (37-for-119) with three homers, nine RBI and four steals.
Seattle Mariners second baseman Jorge Polanco (hamstring) remains out of the starting lineup on Friday versus the Baltimore Orioles. It will be Polanco's third straight missed game due to right-hamstring soreness. The 30-year-old is considered day-to-day and will next have a chance to return to the lineup on Saturday. In his absence, Josh Rojas will make another start at second base and will bat sixth, while Luis Urias starts at the hot corner and bats ninth against Orioles left-hander John Means. Polanco has yet to get going at all really in 2024 with a slash line of just .192/.298/.308 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 146 at-bats. Rojas is exceeding everyone's expectations offensively this year and has gone 16-for-46 (.348) in 12 games in May. However, he's had only 11 plate appearances against lefties in 2024.
Seattle Mariners catcher/designated hitter Mitch Garver (back) and second baseman Jorge Polanco (hamstring) are both out of the lineup on Wednesday against the visiting Kansas City Royals. Garver was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to back spasms and will miss his second straight game. Polanco will also sit out for the second day in a row due to a tight right hamstring. Mitch Haniger is the DH and is hitting third on Wednesday, with Josh Rojas at second base and batting leadoff against Royals right-hander Alec Marsh. Luke Raley is in right field and is batting fifth. Fantasy managers should consider both Garver and Polanco day-to-day and check back to see if they are back in the lineup on Friday for the series opener against the Orioles in Baltimore. Rojas doesn't have much power but has been swinging a hot bat this year with a .333 average (36-for-108) with three homers, eight RBI and four stolen bases.
Seattle Mariners second baseman Jorge Polanco (hamstring) is absent from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. The Mariners will hold out Polanco after he made an early exit from Monday's game due to a hamstring issue. For now, fantasy managers should consider Polanco as day-to-day. In his absence, Josh Rojas will bat leadoff and cover second base for Tuesday's game. Rojas has been hitting well in the leadoff spot, so he could be an interesting streaming option here.
