Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) took part in batting practice on the field before the team's series opener on Friday against the San Francisco Giants at T-Mobile Park and said that he could begin a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as Sunday or Monday. Crawford was hit on the back of his right hand on July 22, with an initial timeline projected for four to six weeks. It's the second stint on the injured list for Crawford this year after he missed around a month with an oblique strain in late April and May. When he has been on the field, the 29-year-old hasn't done much, hitting .204/.299/.347 with nine home runs, 32 RBI and five steals in 294 at-bats. Crawford could rejoin the M's as soon as late next week if he doesn't have a setback with his finger on his rehab assignment, but his return to the lineup isn't likely to suddenly fix the team's year-long offensive struggles.
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) is hoping to start swinging a bat this week as he tries to work his way back from the injured list. Crawford threw for the first time before last weekend's homestand finale against the visiting New York Mets on Aug. 11 after going down with a fractured right pinkie finger in late July. For now, fantasy managers can expect the veteran on-base machine to return to the M's sometime either before the end of August or in early September, depending on if he needs a minor-league rehab assignment or not. In the meantime, center fielder Victor Robles should continue functioning as Seattle's everyday leadoff hitter and experiencing an uptick in fantasy value.
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger), who has been taking infield practice since Aug. 2, threw for the first time before the team's series finale on Sunday against the visiting New York Mets, lightly tossing out to 60 feet. "Today's Day 1 for J.P. throwing," manager Scott Servais said on Sunday. "He still feels it, but we want to get his arm moving." The team's most optimistic projections have Crawford potentially starting a return progression no Aug. 19. He was hit on the back of his right hand by a changeup on July 22 and suffered a right-pinkie fracture. The timeline on Crawford at the time of his injury was four to six weeks. It's the second stint on the injured list this year for Crawford, who missed around a month with an oblique strain in late April and May. In between the injuries, the 29-year-old has been a big disappointment with a .204/.299/.347 slash line, nine homers and five steals.
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (hand) took infield practice with his one capable hand prior to Friday's game and was seen wearing a protective cast in his other hand. The 29-year-old is also slated for an X-ray on Monday. Crawford hit the injured list on July 23 with a right-hand fracture and was expected to miss approximately four to six weeks of playing time. This is a good sign that the shortstop was able to begin to go through infield practice without any setbacks. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to the results of his X-ray on Monday as it could determine how close he could be to returning. Prior to the injury, he held a .204/.299/.347 line with nine home runs and five stolen bases. Dylan Moore should continue to see the majority of starting opportunities at shortstop while Crawford remains sidelined.
Seattle Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford (finger) is expected to be out for four to six weeks after being placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. Crawford fractured his right pinkie finger when he was hit by a pitch in Monday's series opener against the division-rival Los Angeles Angels. The good news is that the 29-year-old won't need surgery, but he can probably be dropped in mixed leagues at this point. Crawford will wear a protective brace on his hand for the next couple of weeks to allow his finger to heal properly. With Crawford sidelined, Dylan Moore has become the M's starter at the 6. In his eighth major-league season (sixth with the Mariners), Crawford has contributed very little offensively, slashing .204/.299/.347 with a career-low .645 OPS, nine home runs, 32 RBI and five stolen bases in 335 trips to the plate over 77 games.
