Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene (elbow) underwent an MRI exam and obtained three opinions on his injured right elbow, with no structural damage to be found. It's great news since he had Tommy John surgery in 2019. However, Greene won't be ready anytime soon. "It looks like I need about two weeks or so for the inflammation to go down, to go away," Greene said. "Then I'll start throwing again." There remains hope that Greene can return in 2024, but he's quickly running out of time to make an impact for fantasy managers still chasing a title. In a best-case scenario, he's likely to make only one or two more starts if he actually makes it back. The 25-year-old former second overall pick in 2017 was a first-time All-Star this year and has had a fantastic season, going 9-4 with a career-best 2.83 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and solid 27.8% strikeout rate in his 24 starts.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day IL on Saturday evening with right elbow soreness. The Reds plan on recalling a player from Triple-A sometime tomorrow. The right-hander expressed some pain in his throwing elbow following his previous start on Tuesday and will now sit out for at least the next two weeks. Since the start of July, the hard thrower has been one of the best pitchers in the sport, boasting an incredible 0.98 ERA, 0.70 WHIP, and a 12:53 BB:K ratio across 46 frames. Overall, through 143 1/3 innings of work, the Notre Dame product sits with a 2.83 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP and is on pace to have the best season of his major league career. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to who is called upon to fill the open spot in the rotation going forward.

Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene turned in another strong start in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Cardinals. Greene pitched seven innings, allowing a single run on four hits (including a solo home run) and a walk with eight strikeouts. The 25-year-old has performed like a former fantasy prospect this season, going 9-4 with a 2.83 ERA, a 10.17 K/9 rate, and a 3.33 BB/9 rate in 24 starts and 143 1/3 IP. He has been on an even more impressive run over his last seven starts, resulting in seven quality starts with a 0.98 ERA. He will have a good chance to extend his quality start streak to eight in his next start, which will be at the scuffling Blue Jays.
Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene stayed hot in Thursday's no-decision versus the Miami Marlins. Greene tossed his sixth straight quality start, firing six innings of three-run ball, allowing six hits, two walks and striking out five batters. The right-hander has been rolling lately and has a 1.13 ERA over his last five starts. On the season, Greene owns a 2.90 ERA to go along with 10.17 K/9 and 12 quality starts. At this point, the only concern for Greene managers would be if the Reds decide to limit him down the stretch, with a playoff appearance unlikely. The talented flamethrower will look to pick up his seventh straight quality start when he faces off against the division rival St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
