Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is back in the Guardians lineup and hitting second for Saturday night's game against the Atlanta Braves. Gimenez was out on Friday against Braves' southpaw Chris Sale but gets a matchup today against Charlie Morton. The lefty has never faced Morton in his career. He's hitting for a fairly average .664 OPS but has been hitting better on the road, increasing his OPS to .785 away from Progressive Field. Charlie Morton has fared much worse against lefties in 2024, putting Gimenez in a favorable matchup. Those looking for an option in DFS formats may want to entertain adding the Guardians' lefty into their lineup on Saturday night.
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is not in the club's starting lineup on Friday for the start of a big series in Atlanta against the Braves. With Gimenez starting on the bench, Gabriel Arias will start at the keystone and will hit seventh in the order against Braves left-hander Chris Sale. Gimenez is hitting a modest .258 (24-for-93) on the year with no home runs, 14 RBI and three stolen bases in his first 24 games. The left-handed hitter is surprisingly hitting better against southpaws (.280) in 29 plate appearances than he is against righties (.250), but he'll still get the day off against the lefty Sale. Arias has gone 14-for-50 with a homer, eight RBI and two steals early on but is hitless in his two career at-bats versus Sale.
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the visiting Oakland Athletics. The 25-year-old went 1-for-4 with a run scored, two RBI, and a stolen base during Friday's 10-2 victory but will begin Saturday's game on the bench. Gimenez has shown a nice combination of power and speed over the last couple of seasons, slugging 32 homers and stealing 50 bags over the last two campaigns. He has hit .291 on the young season and while he has yet to hit a home run, he does have three stolen bases and a .736 OPS across his first 91 trips to the plate. The Guardians are off to a hot start, sitting atop the AL Central with a 14-6 record on the young season.
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez went 2-for-5 with two RBI during Thursday's 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox. The 25-year-old has not cleared the fences yet this season, but he is enjoying a strong start nonetheless. Gimenez is slashing .293/.360/.387 with 11 RBI, 13 runs scored and two stolen bases through 19 games. He should continue to add in all those categories for the remainder of 2024 while reaching double-digits in home runs for the third straight year. Gimenez is comfortably a top-10 second base option for the rest of the season.
Cleveland Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez picked up his first hit of the spring on Wednesday in an 8-6 Cactus League loss to the Diamondbacks. The hit was a single in the bottom of the sixth inning and he later came around to score. The 2022 All-Star is now 1-for-8 in the spring with one strikeout. The left-handed hitter had a bit of a disappointing season in 2023 after a sixth-place MVP finish in 2022 had raised expectations, but he was top-12 or better in runs scored, RBI, and stolen bases among second basemen last season. He'll contribute in all these categories again in 2024, and look for him to hit better than last season's .251 average and .309 WOBA. Right now RotoBaller has him ranked at 109 overall, slightly ahead of his NFBC ADP of 113.
