Jauan Jennings Exceeds Expectations In Super Bowl LVIII

If a few things had worked out differently on Sunday in the 25-22 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings would have been in the Super Bowl LVIII MVP conversation. The third-year wideout caught four of five targets for 42 yards, including a gigantic 10-yard touchdown reception to give San Francisco the lead early in the fourth quarter. Earlier, in one of the greatest trick plays in Super Bowl history, Jennings took an overhand lateral from quarterback Brock Purdy and launched a pass, all the way back across the field as he was hit, to a waiting Christian McCaffrey for a 21-yard touchdown scamper. Whatever the reason the 49ers couldn't get it done in this one, Jennings himself certainly can't be blamed after the inspired performance. After spending his career to this point as no more than a role player, Jennings will be a restricted free agent this summer and likely be off the fantasy map to start the 2024 season whether he leaves San Francisco or not.

George Kittle Ghosts Fantasy Players In Super Bowl LVIII

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle disappointed fantasy gamers in the team's 25-22 Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas on Sunday. Chiefs' defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and his squad silenced Kittle, limiting him to just two catches on three targets for four yards receiving. Though Kittle finished as the fifth-most productive tight end in half-PPR scoring this year, nights like this are to be expected. In five separate games this year, he failed to reach five points. The Super Bowl loss ends Kittle's season with a particularly painful whimper though, as he finished with fewer than 10 yards receiving for just the third time this season. Of course, you can't have a top-5 finish without great games as well, so he'll likely be a mid-level TE1 in fantasy drafts this fall as he tries to get to the Super Bowl for a third time.

Deebo Samuel Inefficient, Hobbled In Super Bowl Loss

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring) had a frustrating Sunday night in the team's 25-22 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. The former second-rounder fell to the turf, grabbing his leg in the third quarter but returned shortly after. While 49er fans and fantasy managers could breathe a sigh of relief when he returned, Samuel wasn't able to do much damage after -- or for that matter, before -- the injury. He finished the game with three catches on a game-high 11 targets for just 33 yards. San Francisco also attempted to get Samuel involved in the running game, giving him three carries which turned into just eight yards. He'll most likely be taken near the WR1/WR2 border when fantasy drafts happen in the fall.

Brandon Aiyuk Quiet In Super Bowl Loss

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk continued a statically mediocre postseason in the team's 25-22 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII. The former first-rounder finished with just three receptions -- the same number in both of his previous playoff games this season -- on six targets for 49 yards. The 16.3 yards per reception in this game were near his regular-season number of 17.9, which was second in the NFL to Pittsburgh's George Pickens who had twelve fewer receptions and virtually the same amount of targets. Still, the 49ers and fantasy managers could have used one or two more big plays out of the fourth-year pro. Aiyuk will likely enter his age-26 season as a solid WR2 in 2024 fantasy drafts.

Christian McCaffrey With 30 Touches In Super Bowl Loss

Predictably, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was heavily involved in the team's 25-22 Super Bowl LVIII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. The newly-minted Offensive Player of the Year took 22 carries for 80 yards, plus eight receptions on as many targets for another 80 yards and a touchdown. The 21-yard touchdown reception improbably came from wide receiver Jauan Jennings on a trick play. It's hard to blame McCaffrey for the loss after 160 all-purpose yards, but besides the touchdown he was pretty well bottled up by Kansas City's defense, averaging just 3.6 yards on the ground while not gaining any chunks longer than 11 yards. CMC will once again enter 2024 fantasy drafts worthy of consideration for the No. 1 overall pick.
