Sam Hartman Gets $225,000 Guaranteed From Commanders

The Washington Commanders signed former Notre Dame quarterback Sam Hartman as an undrafted free agent. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Hartman is getting a $20,000 signing bonus and $225,000 base salary guarantee from Washington, potentially signaling they want to keep him around beyond offseason activities and training camp. In five years at Wake Forest and one at Notre Dame combined, the 24-year-old threw for 15,656 yards, 134 touchdowns, and 49 interceptions. He added 978 yards and 20 touchdowns as a runner. The Commanders selected LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels with the No. 2 overall pick and has former No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota on the roster, so Hartman will likely be the QB3 in 2024 -- at best. The two-time All-ACC performer is one of the most high-profile UDFA's in this year's class.

Michael Wiley Heads To Washington

The Washington Commanders have signed undrafted running back MIchael Wiley. The Arizona product has put together a fairly strong college career. He has nearly 3,000 yards from scrimmage and 28 touchdowns during his time at Arizona. He's not exactly a workhorse back with only one season with 100-plus rushing attempts. Despite that, Wiley can still make an impact at the pro level. He'll have an uphill battle during camp, but the Commanders don't have many of reliable backs.

Sam Hartman Signing With Commanders

The Washington Commanders have signed quarterback Sam Hartman on Sunday. The Notre Dame signal-caller went undrafted during this weekend's NFL draft. There were rumors of Hartman going to the Chicago Bears, but instead Hartman will head to Washington. The six-year prospect finished his college career with Notre Dame after playing mostly at Wake Forest. Hartman threw for 2,689 passing yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions during his last year in college. He should get a legitimate chance to compete for the backup gig with veteran Marcus Mariota in camp. It seems likely that Jaylen Daniels has the starting quarterback gig locked up heading into camp.

Luke McCaffrey Selected By Commanders 100th Overall

The Washington Commanders have selected Rice University wide receiver Luke McCaffrey with the 100th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. The pick marked the end of Round 3 and Day 2 of the draft. McCaffrey is a converted quarterback who transferred from Nebraska to Rice during the middle of his collegiate career. He truly broke out during his final season with the Owls, catching 71 passes for 992 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also rushed for an additional 117 yards on the ground. The brother of 49ers star Christian McCaffrey and son of three-time Super Bowl champion Ed McCaffrey, Luke demonstrated extreme leadership, football IQ, physicality, athleticism, and route running skills at Rice. He excelled in contested catch scenarios and should be a very reliable weapon for the Commanders and new quarterback Jayden Daniels. He figures to enter training camp as Washington's No. 3 wide receiver behind Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson.

Ben Sinnott Taken At No. 53 On Friday Night

The Commanders selected Kansas State tight end Ben Sinnott with the No. 53 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The 21-year-old is coming off the best collegiate season of his career, totaling 49 catches for 676 yards and six touchdowns. While he's still young, he has the tools needed to be a potent pass-catcher moving ahead. Of course, Sinnott will have to contend with Zach Ertz for playing time. It could also take Jayden Daniels some time to find his rhythm in Washington, meaning Sinnott might not be productive immediately.
