Free-agent wide receiver Chris Conley agreed to a one-year deal with the 49ers on Saturday. The journeyman wideout has played for five teams throughout his career, making stops in Kansas City, Jacksonville, Houston, and Tennessee before appearing in eight regular season games for San Francisco in 2023-24. He finished the year by catching just three passes (six targets) for 69 yards while failing to find the end zone. The 49ers still have Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk as their primary receivers, so Conley will continue to have a tough time getting looks from Brock Purdy, meaning he won't see much attention from fantasy managers heading into the 2024-25 campaign.
The San Francisco 49ers restructured the contract of tight end George Kittle on Friday to create close to $10 million in 2024 salary cap space. It's likely that the 49ers converted Kittle's base salary this year into bonus money to create the cap space. The 30-year-old former fifth-round pick by the team in 2017 out of Iowa has made the Pro Bowl five times in his first seven seasons and has been a big reason for the 49ers' success in recent year. In 16 regular-season games, Kittle caught 65 of his 90 targets for a league-high 1,020 receiving yards among tight ends and six touchdowns. He only caught two passes for four yards in the Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but Kittle continues to be one of the top fantasy tight ends in the game.
New York Giants wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins is not expected to be tendered as a restricted free agent and will hit the open market, according to a source. The 25-year-old wideout showed major promise upon initially joining the Giants midway through the 2022 season, when he had 351 receiving yards and four touchdowns in eight games played. Hodgins came back down to Earth in 2023, though, as he caught just 21 passes on 33 targets for 230 yards and three touchdowns in 17 games (nine starts) in New York's dysfunctional offense. He could return to the Giants on a lesser deal for the 2024 season, but wherever the former sixth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2020 lands, he'll function as more of receiver depth than as an actual starter.
San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk agreed to a restructured contract on Wednesday, according to his agent. The move clears roughly $1.75 million in cap space for the organization. The 32-year-old has been named to eight consecutive Pro Bowl rosters, and he earned his first All-Pro selection in 2023. Fullbacks are a dying breed in the NFL, yet Juszczyk is considered a valuable piece of the high-powered Niners offense, and he will remain the highest-paid player at the position under his new deal. In 11 NFL seasons, he has rushed 62 times for 221 yards and five touchdowns and hauled in 262 passes for 2,464 receiving yards and 16 scores.
The San Francisco 49ers tendered restricted free-agent wide receiver Jauan Jennings at the second-round level on Monday. Jennings is set to make $4.89 million on the tender for the 2024 season, and the sides can now continue to negotiate a multi-year extension. Any other NFL team that signs Jennings to an offer sheet that the 49ers decide to match must part ways with a second-round draft pick. It means that Jennings is going to stay with the 49ers in 2024, unless he's traded. The 26-year-old pass-catcher had a career-low 19 receptions on 33 targets for 265 yards and only one touchdown in 13 regular-season games (two starts) for San Fran in his third year in the league in 2023. Although he caught a touchdown and threw for a TD in the Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs, Jennings is unlikely to produce much in 2024 for a loaded Niners offense.
