Colorado Rockies outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernandez picked up his first hit for Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday. The 21-year-old went 1-for-4 in the contest, connecting for a single and RBI. It was his second game with his new team, but he continues to have strong exit velocities off his bat. Fernandez has seen his stock shoot up over the last few seasons for a Rockies system that has been loaded with outfield prospects like Jordan Beck, Benny Montgomery and Zac Veen to name a few. Fernandez has worked on his plate discipline and that has been a big reason for his ascension, but his hard-hitting bat cannot be ignored. Between Double-A and Triple-A this season, Fernandez has hit a combined .280 with 10 homers and 47 RBI. Fernandez should continue to tap into his power and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him in Colorado at some point in 2025. With his upside, dynasty managers should consider adding the outfielder before it is too late.
The Colorado Rockies are promoting outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernandez to Triple-A Hartford. The 21-year-old has spent the entire season at Double-A Hartford, posting an up-and-down season to this point. The Cuban hit .224 in April, .307 in May, .247 in June, and finally .320 in July/August, prompting his promotion. Fernandez finished with a .283/.339/.439 slashline with 10 home runs in 88 games and lowered his K% year-over-year at Double-A from 32.9% to just 19.1%. The Rockies' No. 4 prospect (MLB No. 64) has big-time power and Coors Field should treat him well when he makes it there, which should be sometime next season.
Colorado Rockies outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernandez has continued to stay hot in the batter's box through July through his second look at Double-A ball. Since July 1, the number 66th ranked prospect on MLB.com has held a stellar .341/.396/.545 line with two home runs and a 4:10 BB:K ratio. This is a significant improvement over the mediocre .247/.314/.403 line he held through June. Overall in 74 games at Double-A Hartford, the 21-year-old sits with a .279/.335/.430 slash line, eight home runs, 43 RBI, and a 22:55 BB:K ratio. Last summer, in his first 56 games at the Double-A level, he posted a mere .206 AVG. Fernandez has continued to improve at Double-A and is nearing a promotion to Triple-A. The number three-ranked prospect in the Colorado system remains on track to meet his 2025 major league ETA.
Colorado Rockies outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernandez was 4-for-5 with a home run for Double-A Hartford on Wednesday. The 21-year-old is off to an 8-for-15 start in three July games with two homers and five RBI. The Rockies No. 4 prospect is hitting .284 with eight homers and 42 RBI in an impressive season so far in Double-A. Fernandez has 60-grade power and profiles as a plus-contributor in the power categories. The Cuban is a name to monitor as he continues to progress through the Rockies' minor league system. Eventually hitting at Coors Field would be a nice setup for Fernandez but that could be a year or two away.
Colorado Rockies outfield prospect Yanquiel Fernandez continued his strong season by going 2-for-5 with a pair of runs and a two-run home run on Monday. Fernandez, 21, is the 67th ranked prospect per MLB Pipeline rankings and he has backed that up by hitting .269 with seven home runs and 39 RBI over 219 at-bats this season. Fernandez offers tons of raw power from the left side of the plate, but still needs to work on his aggressiveness at the plate. The outfielder should be rostered in dynasty formats with his power likely to translate in a big way at Coors Field when he eventually makes his big-league debut, which could come as soon as 2025.
