Oakland Athletics first baseman Seth Brown went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's victory versus the division rival Houston Astros. Brown was one of five Athletics to round the bases in the contest and is now up to eight homers on the season with 20 RBI and a .197 batting average. At this point of his career, the 32-year-old is what he is, a bench bat that carries a good amount of power, but not much else. With the trade deadline approaching and Oakland clearly in a rebuild, there is a chance he can be dealt or see less playing time for a younger player. Either way, Brown can be left on the waiver wire.

The A's hit a whopping eight homers in this one, and Brown did his part by smashing a couple of solo shots. He finished the day 3-for-5 and added three runs and three RBI to his totals. It's been a tough year for the 32-year-old, who has a .202 AVG, 16 runs, seven homers, 19 RBI, and four swipes over 193 at-bats. He doesn't need to be rostered in any fantasy formats.

Brown's home run in the top of the second off Jon Gray would be the only run scored by both teams in a low offensive output. In addition to his home run, he also doubled. He is now hitting .175 with four RBI in 40 at-bats. Brown has been a steady source of power with 59 career home runs in the last three seasons, but that has been about it with a weak .225 career batting average. As with most power hitters that hurt managers in the average department, you have to ride them while they are hot and hopefully Thursday's performance can be the start of something good for Brown. For now, Brown can remain on the waiver wire in most formats.
