The Athletic's Tashan Reed writes that Las Vegas Raiders running backs Ameer Abdullah and rookie sixth-rounder Dylan Laube are in a position battle to determine who will be the third-down running back behind Zamir White and Alexander Mattison. Neither Abdullah nor Laube made much of an impact in the preseason opener last weekend against the Minnesota Vikings, so the competition remains a toss-up as of right now. The 31-year-old Abdullah probably has a leg up just because of his familiarity with the offense after catching 19 of his 24 targets in 2023 for 131 yards in 17 games played. However, unless one of White or Mattison miss time with an injury this year, it's hard to foresee Abdulla or Laube having much fantasy appeal outside of very deep PPR leagues.
Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Dylan Laube is making an early case for playing time in training camp this summer. "I hope so. He is off to a great start," offensive coordinator Luke Getsy said. "He has a great feel for it, and he doesn't have the errors as far as what his responsibilities are. That's really cool to see from such a young guy." Laube was selected in the sixth round in April out of New Hampshire and has a long ways to go before he's a realistic option in the Raiders backfield in his first NFL season. As of right now, the 24-year-old is behind Zamir White, Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullah, so it would likely take an injury or two to the RBs ahead of him for him to become a realistic waiver-wire pickup in standard fantasy leagues in 2024. However, the 5-foot-10, 208-pounder is one to keep an eye on for the rest of camp and the preseason.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Dylan Laube has been impressing the organization this offseason, meaning the sixth-round pick has a realistic shot to make the 53-man roster for the 2024 campaign. "He's wise beyond his years. He shows up like a vet. He can take what he learns from the classroom and apply it on the field," running backs coach Cadillac Williams said. "He's always going to be in the right spots. Got really good hands, quick, explosive. Just a very cerebral player that can do a lot of things." The New Hampshire product has been flashing his receiving skills at minicamp, and he's taken reps on the kick return team. Laube caught 117 passes for 1,163 yards and nine touchdowns in his final two college seasons, and he registered over 2,000 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns in 2023. The 24-year-old is likely behind Zamir White and Alexander Mattison on the depth chart, but he could beat out Ameer Abdullah to earn at least a small pass-catching role in his rookie season. He's an interesting late-round flier in deep PPR fantasy football leagues.
Las Vegas Raiders running back Dylan Laube has been receiving high praise from the team's general manager Tom Telesco. The 24-year-old joined the Raiders this offseason after playing his college career at New Hampshire. Laube has a strong ability to catch passes, but has impressed the organization on special teams as well. The Raiders don't have a ton of depth with Zamir White and Alexander Mattison as the only two legitimate options in front of him. Laube could work his way into the mix, but fantasy managers shouldn't get too eager on draft day.
