According to head coach Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy's (shoulder) status for the team's Week 13 matchup against the Buffalo Bills is "really up in the air." ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported the news. Yikes. The Iowa State product left San Francisco's Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks with some shoulder soreness, but after his Monday MRI came back clean, San Fran thought a few days of rest would do the field general some good. However, upon his appearance at Thursday's practice, his shoulder pain "surprised him," and they "had to shut him down." It's unfortunate news for the 49ers offense as what was thought to be a routine ailment has potentially evolved into a multi-week injury. It's possible that a few extra days of rest could quell the pain, but at this time, fantasy managers will want to prepare for the worst-case scenario. With Brandon Allen set to make his first start this season in Purdy's stead, the entirety of San Francisco's offense gets a downgrade for the time being.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) has officially been ruled out for the Week 12 contest on the road against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy came out of the Week 11 loss to the division-rival Seattle Seahawks with some shoulder soreness, but it didn't appear to be very serious until late this week. An MRI exam was encouraging, so this shouldn't be a long-term absence, but fantasy managers are going to need to pivot this weekend. The 24-year-old will be replaced under center by Brandon Allen, which will be a downgrade for San Fran's entire offense. Expect a heavy dose of running back Christian McCaffrey against Green Bay, with wideouts Deebo Samuel Sr. and Jauan Jennings and tight end George Kittle (hamstring) having much lower ceilings and floors.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) was not spotted at Friday's practice, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN. This is not a good sign for his ability this weekend, as he will likely carry an injury designation into the weekend. It was reported earlier on Friday that Purdy underwent a successful MRI but remained in questionable status. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but he could be in danger of missing Sunday's game. Purdy has enjoyed a great campaign from a fantasy perspective, averaging 26.0 PPR points per game since Week 6. If Purdy cannot play this weekend, Brandon Allen should be expected to take over starting duties and be viewed as a low-end QB2 in Superflex formats.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) received positive results from an MRI, according to Cam Inman of the Bay Area News Group. Inman noted that general manager John Lynch expressed that the team feels "good" about where he currently is, but both Brandon Allen and Joshua Dobbs would be ready to suit up in case Purdy cannot play on Sunday. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring Purdy's status during Friday's practice as it would likely clarify his status heading into the weekend. If Purdy cannot suit up, Brandon Allen would be in line to see first-team reps and would be viewed as a low-end QB2 in Superflex formats facing the Green Bay Packers.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) was listed as a limited practice participant for the second straight day this week on Thursday. Purdy also didn't speak to the media after practice on Thursday, instead opting to get extra treatment for his sore right shoulder. The 24-year-old's status is a bit up in the air for Sunday's game at Lambeau Field against the hosting Green Bay Packers, but the good news is he did more throwing in warmups than he did on Wednesday. In a worst-case scenario for the Niners, Purdy would be held out this weekend in favor of Brandon Allen under center. We'll have a better idea of Purdy's status after Friday's practice. If Purdy gets more done in Friday's practice and is cleared to play by Sunday, he should be considered a low-end QB1 option in fantasy against a Packers defense that has been more stingy against the position in recent weeks.UPDATE: Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he's hopeful Purdy will feel better and be able to play on Sunday.
