San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) will suit up on Sunday for a Week 14 home matchup against the Chicago Bears. The 24-year-old signal-caller returned from a one-game absence to a Week 13 snowstorm in Buffalo. Purdy's fantasy performance was dismal -- understandably so, given the conditions and injury problems that his offense was dealing with. While it does get easier for Purdy this week, don't expect a walk in the park on Sunday. Chicago is the second-best team in the league at preventing fantasy quarterback points and the 49ers are even more thin on healthy starters than last week. All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) remains out and it's anyone's guess whether left guard Aaron Banks will clear concussion protocol in time. In the backfield, San Francisco will turn to rookie third-string back Isaac Guerendo as Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) are likely out for the season. Purdy is a high-end QB2 at best, even in a six-team bye week.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy struggled in a 35-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. In a snow-filled Highmark Stadium, Purdy slipped and slid to a disappointing 11-for-18, 94-yard performance with no touchdowns and one fumble lost. He scrambled twice for four yards rushing. Almost nothing went right for the 49ers in this one, as they entered the game with a patchwork offensive line and Christian McCaffrey being ruled out with a knee injury in the second quarter, not to mention the snow which persisted throughout the game despite early-week predictions that it would let up in the first half. In a microcosm of the game itself, Purdy's turnover came on a pass attempt that slipped out of his hand before his arm started moving forward, acting as a microcosm of the game itself. Purdy seemed to show no ill effects of the shoulder injury that kept him out of the Green Bay game in Week 12. Purdy will look to bounce back in familiar home conditions in Week 14 when he'll face a quality Chicago Bears pass defense.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) will play in Sunday's matchup versus the Bills. The signal-caller missed the Week 12 meeting with the Green Bay Packers. However, after practicing in full on Friday, he'll shed his questionable designation and be out there in Week 13 on Sunday night. Purdy is a capable fantasy quarterback, but with unfavorable weather conditions in Buffalo, he could have a tough time getting anything going in his return to action, meaning both teams may need to rely more on the run.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder) is anticipated to play in Sunday night's matchup versus the Bills. The signal-caller wasn't on the field for the Week 12 loss to the Packers. As a result, Brandon Allen got the start, finishing with 199 yards, one touchdown, and one pick off 17-for-29 passing. If Purdy is officially cleared to suit up on Sunday, he could have a tough time getting it going, considering heavy snow is in the forecast for Buffalo. Still, he should at least be considered a starting fantasy option in multi-QB setups. But if Purdy isn't out there, Allen doesn't have much upside in any format.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brandon Allen could get a second consecutive start filling in for starter Brock Purdy (shoulder) when the 49ers play at the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Friday that he expects Purdy to play, but "lots of things could happen between now and then." In last week's 38-10 loss to the Packers in Green Bay, Allen completed 17-of-29 attempts for 199 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. In 10 career starts, Allen has only provided two fantasy-useful performances: A two-touchdown, 193-yard, zero-interception performance in his first career start with Denver back in 2019 and a two-touchdown, 371-yard, zero-interception game with the Bengals in 2021. A large snowstorm is predicted on Sunday in Western New York, and although most of the snow is supposed to fall before kickoff, it could still be windy. Even in perfect weather, the career-backup Allen would not be a recommended fantasy starter against a good Buffalo passing defense.
