Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (elbow) remains out of the starting lineup for Monday's series opener at Minute Maid Park against the Boston Red Sox. Rookie infielder Shay Whitcomb will make his third straight start at the hot corner and will bat ninth against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck. This will be Bregman's fourth straight missed start, and even though he initially said he didn't expect to miss much time due to swelling in the back of his right elbow, this could turn into a stint on the injured list if he's not able to get back on the field by later this week. Whitcomb had two hits in his MLB debut on Saturday against the Chicago White Sox but went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in his second game on Sunday in the series finale. Bregman's fantasy managers are keeping their fingers crossed he can return soon, as the 30-year-old two-time All-Star has been on a tear in August, going 18-for-53 (.340) with five homers, five doubles and eight RBI in 12 games.
As expected, Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (elbow) is out of the series finale on Sunday against the Chicago White Sox at Minute Maid Park. Rookie Shay Whitcomb will make a second straight start at third base and will hit fifth against White Sox left-hander Ky Bush. Bregman is dealing with swelling in the back of his right elbow and is now missing a third straight game, although he considers himself day-to-day, and he could be back for Monday's series opener against the Boston Red sox. Whitcomb, who made his big-league debut on Saturday, went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored and will be a low-cost DFS sleeper in his second career game. Bregman has hit .340 (18-for-53) with five homers, five doubles and eight RBI in 12 games in August, so fantasy managers would like him back as soon as possible.
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman (elbow) is out of Friday's starting lineup at Minute Maid Park against the Chicago White Sox due to swelling in the back of his right elbow, according to the team. It's unclear if this is an injury that will keep Bregman out for multiple games or even potentially send him to the injured list. Utility man Mauricio Dubon will start at the hot corner on Friday and bat eighth against White Sox left-hander Garrett Crochet. It's bad timing for the 30-year-old Bregman to be injured, as he's been hot in August with a .340/.375/.717 slash line with five long balls, five doubles, eight RBI and 12 runs scored in 12 games. Dubon won't have much DFS upside in the eight-hole for Houston, but he does have an RBI and one hit in three career at-bats against Crochet.UPDATE: Bregman said he "slept on (his elbow) wrong" and underwent tests that showed no ligament damage. He said he hopes to miss "a few days."
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman had a massive game on Tuesday as the Astros beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2. Bregman went 3-for-5 with a double, a solo homer, and two runs scored. Bregman has had a mediocre season compared to his standards. However, he has been scorching hot lately. In his last seven games, he is slashing .469/.514/.969 with four homers, seven RBI, and a 3:4 BB: K. He is catching fire just at the right time, as Houston is in pursuit of securing a postseason spot. The Astros (64-55) currently have a 1.5-game lead over the Seattle Mariners in the AL West Division.
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman smacked a two-run go-ahead home run Tuesday night and pitched in an RBI single in a close 4-3 win versus the Miami Marlins. As the summer months are heating up so is Bregman's bat. The 30-year-old veteran was looking like he was headed for a miserable season with his batting average sitting at .219 with only seven home runs at the end of May. Not so fast said Bregman. After batting .310 in June he's off to another hot start in July batting .313 which brought his batting average up to a respectable .254. Bregman may not have the pop to be a top fantasy player anymore, but he still produces in a talented, but aging Houston Astros lineup. Not only is his power down, but his on-base skills have disappeared. He's almost sitting at a career-low .315 OBP with only 30 walks on the season. Hopefully, he can continue to keep this hot streak alive with his batting average because if he doesn't it won't be surprising if his roster percent rate starts to slip as we get deeper and deeper into the season.
