Patrick Corbin Turns In Quality Start Friday

Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin took a hard-luck loss in a 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Corbin turned in a quality start, allowing just two runs on six hits over six innings while striking out five and walking three. Despite the solid start, the veteran southpaw saw his record drop to 1-6 on the season, to go along with a 5.83 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 41 strikeouts over 66 1/3 innings of work. Corbin's recent track record suggests that he should not be trusted in fantasy leagues moving forward.

Patrick Corbin Looking To Get Straightened Out Friday

Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin will look to get straightened out on Friday when he toes the rubber against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays. The 34-year-old yielded seven runs his last time out against the Miami Marlins, and while only four were earned, it's the fifth time in six starts this season in which he had yielded at least four earned runs. He coughed up eight hits, including a homer, alongside a pair of walks in just four innings his last time out. The ugly outing raised his ERA to 6.82 through six starts this season after he tossed a 5.20 ERA across 32 starts last season. He will take on a Jays team that sports a .314 wOBA versus left-handed pitching this season, good for a share of 13th league-wide.

Patrick Corbin Incorporating A New Cutter

Washington Nationals left-hander Patrick Corbin looked better in his second Grapefruit League outing on Thursday while incorporating more of his newest pitch, a cutter. He needed 49 pitches to complete 1 2/3 innings last Saturday, but on Thursday he cruised through three innings on 41 pitches (32 strikes) and didn't allow a run or walk a batter while scattering three hits and striking out four. One of his K's came on his new cutter. Corbin induced swings on six of the seven cutters he threw (three whiffs). The 34-year-old southpaw plans to continue using the cutter to complement his traditional fastballs-slider combo that he has struggled with in recent seasons. It's something to keep an eye on, but most fantasy managers are avoiding Corbin this year after he had a weak 15.7% strikeout rate last year.
