Luis Castillo Finishes First Half On A High Note

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo continued his strong season by picking up his eighth victory of the season in an 11-0 blowout victory against the division rival Los Angeles Angels. Castillo was not needed deep into the contest with such a big lead, but he was productive in his six innings of work. Over that span, he allowed four hits, zero runs, two walks and struck out five on the evening. The veteran entered the season with the expectation of being of the first pitchers selected in 2024 drafts and has backed up his performance this year with a 3.53 ERA and 116 strikeouts over 117 1/3 innings. The only flaw, if there is one with Castillo is that the Mariners offense could hold him back from getting more victories. Outside of that, he can safely be ranked as a top tier pitcher the rest of the way.

Luis Castillo Wins Duel Of Aces Friday Night

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo (7-9) came out on top in the battle of the aces on Friday night versus Kevin Gausman and the Toronto Blue Jays, picking up the quality start in 6 2/3 innings with one run allowed on two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts in a close 2-1 victory. Castillo carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before making his first and only mistake on a fastball right down the middle to Kevin Kiermaier, who tagged the 1-2 pitch for a solo shot over the right-field wall. The 31-year-old veteran struggled to a 5.13 ERA in June, but hopefully Friday night's outing is the sign of things turning around for the right-hander. Fantasy managers' eyes should light up when they see that Castillo's next matchup on Thursday will be against the Los Angeles Angels, whose offense has struggled mightily lately with only one run scored in their last three games.

Luis Castillo Will Start On Sunday

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Luis Castillo will start Sunday against the Twins in the series finale. With no announced starter for Sunday's game after Bryan Woo was placed on the IL, it was speculated that the Mariners would go with their recent call-up, Jhonathan Diaz. Diaz had made a start earlier this month for the Mariners, but instead, it will be Castillo. The 31-year-old has had a rough go of it lately, with just one quality start in his last four outings, but he did face the Twins once already this season with solid results. The righty went six-and-two-thirds innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and three walks while striking out seven.
