Ravens Release Russell Gage

The Baltimore Ravens are releasing wide receiver Russell Gage, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. Gage missed all of last season with a torn patellar tendon that he suffered in training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he is now being let go by Baltimore after signing with the team earlier this month. Since being selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of LSU, Gage has racked up 244 receptions for 2,491 yards and 14 touchdowns. He had big moments with the Atlanta Falcons and Buccaneers earlier in his career, but his major injury from last year could be affecting him in 2024. Either way, there's a chance another organization will give the veteran a shot as teams cut down to 53 players by Tuesday at 4 p.m. Eastern.

Ricky Pearsall To Practice On Monday

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (shoulder) is set to return to practice on Monday, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. This is great news considering Pearsall has been sidelined throughout the preseason due to a lingering shoulder issue. However, there is still plenty of time for Pearsall to get ready to play before the season opener. The saga of Brandon Aiyuk is still ongoing, which makes Pearsall's value difficult to determine. He's unlikely to have great fantasy value right away, but is worth a look in deep leagues. Pearsall has a bright future, so he's worth the investment in dynasty formats or keeper leagues.

Israel Abanikanda Impresses With 83 Yards, Touchdown

New York Jets running back Israel Abanikanda picked up 83 yards with a touchdown in Saturday night's preseason win over the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium, doing so on only nine carries in the victory. He added a six-yard reception. Abanikanda shed multiple tackles on his way to the end zone in the second quarter, rushing 45 yards down the field for the score. The 21-year-old former fifth-round pick may have locked down a spot on New York's final 53-man roster ahead of the regular season with Saturday's performance against the Giants, but he'll likely slot in as the Jets' No. 4 option in the backfield behind workhorse starter Breece Hall, considering rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis were held out of action in this one.

Ricky Pearsall Nearing Return To Practice

San Francisco 49ers rookie first-round wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (shoulder) didn't play at all in the preseason due to an aggravated shoulder injury that traces back to his college days, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Pearsall last practiced in training camp on Aug. 6, but the good news is there is not enough significant structural damage to call into question his rookie season. Shanahan said he hopes Pearsall returns to practice this week, and if he does, it's a good sign for his availability for the regular-season opener on Monday night, Sept. 9, against the New York Jets. The 23-year-old partially dislocated his shoulder when he first hurt it in college, but it didn't stop the Niners from taking him 31st overall in April. His injury has added a wrinkle to the Brandon Aiyuk saga and should also be concerning to fantasy managers that have already invested in Pearsall in dynasty/keeper formats.

Brandon Aiyuk's Long-Term Status With 49ers Still Up In The Air

The San Francisco 49ers situation with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains unsettled, and the former first-rounder's long-term standing with the organization remains very much in the air. The two sides continue to work on a long-term contract extension, but nothing has been agreed upon yet. It was a good sign that Aiyuk traveled with the team to Las Vegas for their preseason finale on Friday night, but until something gets done contract-wise, Aiyuk won't be back on the field. The Niners do have an extension offer out there for Aiyuk, and the final year of the extension could be tweaked a bit to seal the deal. The Pittsburgh Steelers still have their trade offer for Aiyuk on the table, with it essentially being up to the 49ers to decide whether they want to trade him or continue working toward an extension. It remains to be seen what direction this goes, but the 26-year-old's fantasy value will be highest if he stays in San Fran.
