Going into the Denver Broncos' Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road in Week 3 after the offense averaged 13.0 points through the first two weeks, kicker Wil Lutz was a name to avoid for fantasy lineups at the position. When all was said and done on Sunday, though, Lutz ended up as the top fantasy kicker after making all four of his field-goal attempts (a long of 43 yards out) and both of his extra-point tries for 14 total points on the day. Through the first two weeks of the 2024 campaign, the 30-year-old veteran kicker is a perfect 9-for-9 on his field goals and has made all three of his extra-point opportunities. The Broncos' offense looked much improved under rookie quarterback Bo Nix in Tampa, but expect more struggles down the road, especially in a tough matchup in Week 4 against the New York Jets. Despite a strong Week 3, Lutz should be avoided versus Gang Green.
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz should be on the waiver wire in all fantasy leagues, let alone anywhere near a starting lineup for Week 3 action. Through the first two weeks of the 2024 season, Lutz ranks as the No. 21 fantasy kicker despite being perfect on all of his kicks. He has made all five of his field-goal opportunities and is only extra-point attempt. The 30-year-old has been pretty reliable in his eight years in the NFL with an 85.5% success rate on his field-goal tries, but the problem is that Denver's offense is one of the worst in the league in the early going. They are averaging just 263 yards of total offense and 13 points a game with rookie quarterback Bo Nix under center. It's still early, so Nix and the Broncos' offense could improve as the season wears on, but based on what we've seen through the first two weeks, they just aren't giving Lutz enough tries to make him fantasy relevant.
Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz was the team's offense in a 13-6 loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers in Denver on Sunday. Lutz finished as a top-10 fantasy kicker in the Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks after going 3-for-3 on his field goals while making his only extra-point try. The 30-year-old veteran was only called on twice for field goals this Sunday, connecting on a long of 35. The Bo Nix-led Denver offense was stuck in the mud all day for the second straight week, and the only time they entered the red zone, Nix threw an ugly interception in the back of the end zone. Lutz has been one of the more reliable kickers over the years in terms of field-goal percentage, but he's going to be off the fantasy radar in most leagues on a weekly basis if the Broncos offense continues to look as bad as it has in Nix's first two career starts. Ignore him for a Week 3 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Even though Denver Broncos kicker Wil Lutz had a surprisingly decent Week 1 performance fantasy-wise, you really shouldn't be very interested in using him as a sleeper kicker in Week 2 against a swarming Pittsburgh Steelers defense. Lutz went 3-for-3 on his field goals and also made his only extra-point attempt in the season-opening loss to the Seattle Seahawks in which he benefitted from some good starting positions for a Denver offense that just couldn't get much going in rookie quarterback Bo Nix's NFL debut. The 30-year-old veteran was a Pro Bowler in 2019 with the Saints and has made 85.3% of his 232 field goals attempted in 115 games, so he's been pretty reliable when called upon. However, Denver's offense with a rookie QB at the helm isn't expected to provide Lutz with another kicking opportunities to make him a worthwhile streamer on a weekly basis.
The Denver Broncos offense could not consistently move the football in the Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Lumen Field, but Lutz was still able to have a strong fantasy day thanks to the Broncos offense not being able to capitalize on good field position throughout the day. Lutz finished the day a perfect 3-for-3 on his field-goal tries, with a long of 45 yards. He also hit his only extra point to finish as a top-10 fantasy kicker in the games through Sunday night. Lutz's other two field goals were good from 30 and 35 yards out. It was a nice first game of the 2024 season for the 30-year-old booter, but the Broncos offense under rookie first-round quarterback Bo Nix is going to need to show improvement for Lutz to be considered an option as a streaming fantasy kicker in standard-sized 12-team leagues.
