New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. (ankle) was carted off the field at practice on Tuesday. Tracy was ultimately diagnosed with a low-ankle sprain which gives the Giants a sigh of relief. Tracy is currently listed as the Giants' No. 2 running back behind Devin Singletary. The fifth-round pick out of Purdue has been the talk of camp. Eric Gray is in line to see additional work as long as Tracy is out. Tracy has been a rising sleeper candidate and should be monitored moving forward.
New York Giants rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. (leg) was carted off the practice field on Tuesday following a kickoff drill, team beat reporter Pat Leonard reported on X. Leonard wrote that the injury looked bad, and Tracy had an air cast put on his leg. This is an unfortunate development for the 2024 fifth-round pick, as he has been making waves in training camp thus far. There will surely be further updates on his status, but if he has to miss time, it could clear an easier path for Eric Gray to occupy the RB2 role behind veteran Devin Singletary. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for updates.
New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. has reportedly been impressing the organization early in training camp. The fifth-round rookie appears to be taking the lead in the competition for the second string job in the backfield. Tracy's ability in the short yardage passing game appears to be giving him the advantage over Eric Gray and Dante Miller. It's worth noting that Tracy spent a majority of his career as a wide receiver in college before switching to running back last season. That being said, Tracy certainly has the skillset to get the job done as a receiver in the backfield. However, it's uncertain how much of a usage Tracy could have behind Devin Singletary. Regardless, Tracy is someone to keep an eye on during training camp and in the preseason.
New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was selected in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and any Day 3 pick is far from guaranteed to have a role in Year 1. However, the former wide receiver joined one of the weakest running back rooms in the NFL, meaning he has a legitimate shot to contribute on offense. Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com said Tracy took first-team reps during offseason activities this spring, and Tracy could become a piece of the passing game. "Tracy was already getting work in spring workouts with the first-team offense and clearly the Giants have an opening not just in the passing game, but as a kickoff returner as well," Stapleton wrote. Barring injury, Devin Singletary should be expected to take the first snap in the backfield for the G-Men, but Tracy, who had 113 receptions in six collegiate seasons, could work his way into a satellite back role, which could come with a solid target share considering the team's lack of high-end pass-catching weapons.
New York Giants rookie fifth-round running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. will compete with 2023 fifth-rounder Eric Gray this year for the No. 2 role behind reliable veteran Devin Singletary. Tracy will likely rotate in relief of Singletary, at least initially, but there is more opportunity in New York's backfield now that Saquon Barkley isn't in town. His biggest contributions in his first year in the NFL could come as a returner. The 24-year-old was a two-year starter at Purdue and has clear pass-catching abilities after spending four seasons as a receiver at Iowa. Tracy is going to need to improve as a pure runner, though, if he's going to see enough volume in the NFL to matter to fantasy managers. For now, he's just one to watch in dynasty/keeper leagues as a multi-dimensional threat as a rusher, receiver, and special-teamer.
