ESPN New York's Jordan Raanan writes that New York Giants first-round rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers might be even better than advertised. Nabers has dominated throughout training camp and looks destined to be the team's No. 1 receiver to kick off the regular season. He dealt with an ankle sprain in camp, but he was back in less than a week after the injury and had four catches on six targets for 54 yards in one half of a preseason game against the Houston Texans. "Sky's the limit," fellow receiver Wan'Dale Robinson said. Raanan thinks a monster rookie season seems plausible given the way he's thrived this summer. The 21-year-old eighth overall pick has already shown chemistry with quarterback Daniel Jones and could have immediate WR2 fantasy value in his first year in the NFL if both he and Jones can stay healthy.
Giants rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers hauled in four receptions for 54 yards in New York's 28-10 defeat against the Houston Texans. He was targeted six times. Nabers participated the entire first half with the other New York starters and was used early and often in this one. The LSU product was targeted on the first play from scrimmage by Daniel Jones on a pass nearly intercepted by the Texans' D. He was targeted again two plays later on 3rd-and-6, but the two couldn't connect again on what would have been a big gain. Nabers showed off the electric athleticism Saturday that made him the Giants' sixth-overall pick in this April's draft, and his stock is rising heading into the regular season. It is evident that New York plans to use the highly-touted prospect often this season, and he will likely lead this team in targets come the season's end. Expect him to suit up for his last action of the preseason next Saturday when the Giants take on the New York Jets in their final game before the start of the regular season.
New York Giants first-round rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers (ankle) will play in the team's preseason game on Saturday against the Houston Texans after suffering a mild ankle injury recently in training camp practice. We will now get to see Nabers working with quarterback Daniel Jones for the first time in an NFL game, although the first-team offense probably won't stay in the game for long. Nabers also suited up in the team's preseason opener last week against the Detroit Lions, but he wasn't targeted at all by quarterback Drew Lock. The 21-year-old's ankle injury is a thing of the past, and he should be the most targeted wideout on the Giants in his first year in the NFL. Nabers, the second receiver taken in this year's NFL draft, has all the skills to become a WR2 for fantasy managers right away, but that will all depend on the health and productivity of Jones.
New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that rookie first-round wide receiver Malik Nabers (ankle) will practice in full at training camp on Thursday and has a chance to play in the preseason game on Saturday against the Houston Texans. Nabers suffered a minor ankle injury at practice on Sunday and was held out for a few days, but the 21-year-old from LSU appears to be fine now and shouldn't have any problems being ready for Week 1 of the regular season in a few weeks. In his first NFL game in the preseason opener last week, Nabers played on the first three drives but wasn't targeted at all. We'll get our first chance to see quarterback Daniel Jones work with Nabers in a game this weekend, if Nabers plays. The second wideout taken in this year's draft figures to lead New York's pass-catchers in targets if he stays healthy, giving him WR2 upside in his rookie campaign.
Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers (ankle) underwent a complete evaluation for his ankle injury, and head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that he's "good" and the issue is not "long-term." Daboll indicated that while Nabers will miss some practice time, he's not expected to be sidelined for an extended period. Nabers, who has stood out as New York's top receiver this summer, suffered the injury during a drill at Sunday's practice and was absent from Monday's sessionthe first practice he has missed since being selected as the No. 6 pick in the NFL draft out of LSU. During his absence, Veteran Darius Slayton stepped into Nabers' role as the X receiver. Daboll declined to provide a diagnosis, confirming that the tests didn't reveal a serious injury. There seem to be no significant concerns for Week 1. Nabers might be held out of the remaining two preseason games. Still, his rising ADP in recent weeks underscores the importance of his return to full health for fantasy managers hoping to see him reach his potential.UPDATE: Nabers said he has no doubt he'll be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.
