Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts garnered eight or more targets and seven catches for the second time in three games last week as he's become more involved in the Atlanta passing attack after a zero-catch performance in Week 4. Some of that can be attributed to the opposing team's deficiency in covering TEs, and in Week 8 Pitts will face a team that has already proven itself deficient in defending the pass, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They've allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game in the NFL and 10th-most fantasy points to TEs, including two touchdowns to the Ravens' Mark Andrews just last week. Pitts hauled in seven passes for 88 yards against the Bucs in Week 5, and this time around they are down starter Tykee Smith which could give Pitts and Ray-Ray McCloud III a boost in opportunities. Even with other TEs starting to pull their weight and despite some volatility concerns, Pitts sets up as a back-end TE1 in Week 8.

Although the 24-year-old failed to find the end zone for the sixth consecutive week, the target, reception, and yardage totals were all team-highs on the afternoon. The former first-round draft pick recorded seven catches or more just three times from 2021-23 but has now totaled seven catches in two of the last three games for Atlanta, so perhaps the arrow is starting to point up for him. He also was held without a catch in Week 4, so let's not get too ahead of ourselves. Week 8 brings a rematch with Tampa Bay, which saw 58 pass attempts from Cousins the last time out. A more balanced approach should be the expectation this time around, but Pitts did haul in seven for 88 in that contest and should be involved again.

On the bright side, the 24-year-old's 14.6 yards per catch ranks second-best among TEs, and his average depth of target (aDOT) of 7.82 is better than the likes of George Kittle, Travis Kelce, and Dallas Goedert. Week 7 brings a matchup versus a Seattle pass defense that has surrendered seven reception TDs over their last three contests, two of which came to the aforementioned Kittle in Week 6. With one of the highest projected totals (51) on the slate, everyone will likely be involved, Pitts included. The former fourth-overall draft pick can be inconsistent but is still a TE1 this week.

The yardage was good, but 52 of the 70 came on a single play and the 24-year-old was held out of the end zone for the fifth consecutive game. Still, the targets were tied for second-most on the team and Atlanta leaned heavily on the run game, so outside of Drake London, the air attack underwhelmed overall on Sunday. Pitts will take on the Seahawks defense in Week 7 that has been hit or miss in regards to covering TEs, but George Kittle just went 5-58-2 this past Thursday, and with a high projected total for that game, everyone should be involved.

Still, with how poor tight end production has been so far in 2024, you likely need to keep starting him in season-long leagues. The good news is that his Week 6 opponent, the Carolina Panthers, has generally defended the pass poorly and allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to TEs so far. The bad news is that the only two touchdowns they've allowed to TEs both came in Week 1, so they've been a bit stingier the last four weeks, and with the Falcons as six-point favorites, there may not be as much of a need to go to the air in this game. Pitts profiles as low-end TE1 in Week 6, with as much upside as he has downside.
