Mason is still building his chemistry with Purdy as the team's lead back in 2024 with Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) injured. No RB who has run at least 50 pass routes has been targeted less than Mason this year. A lot of that could have to do with the fact that the Niners don't actually have a third-down option at the position. Although Mason has just seven receptions for 66 yards in five games this year, he's the RB5 in half-PPR scoring into the team's Thursday night divisional showdown against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field. Mason lost the first fumble of his career in the Week 5 loss to the Arizona Cardinals but still had 89 rushing yards on 14 carries. He's a must-start in Week 6 on Thursday night in fantasy.

His matchup in Week 5 is favorable. Arizona has allowed the fifth-most points to opposing running backs this year at 17.9 points per game. Perhaps Mason cedes some action to rookie Isaac Guerendo in this one with near 100-degree temperatures predicted in Santa Clara, which would easily be a Levi's Stadium record. Nevertheless, Mason is as good a play at RB as there is this week. He's a top-shelf RB1 against a porous Arizona run defense.

In retrospect, it seems Guerendo's increased involvement in Week 3 was a function of receiver Deebo Samuel Sr.'s absence. Mason's been one of the great values for shrewd fantasy players in 2024 who took him late in drafts as a stash or snapped him up on waivers after Christian McCaffrey (Achilles) was ruled out before Week 1. Mason will once again be a bell-cow RB1 in CMC's extended absence next Sunday at home against the Arizona Cardinals.
