A previous report stated that Ferguson was working out on the side, but he didn't officially take part in practice, and his status is firmly up in the air for the Week 2 contest at home against the New Orleans Saints. In addition to Ferguson, tight end John Stephens (hamstring) has also missed both practices this week. Ferguson suffered a bone bruise and MCL sprain in the Week 1 victory over the Cleveland Browns and is on the wrong side of questionable for this weekend's game. Fantasy managers that started Ferguson in Week 1 should have already made plans to be without him in Week 2. With both Ferguson and Stephens banged up, it's looking like Luke Schoonmaker will take on a bigger role against the Saints.

If he's out, backup tight end Luke Schoonmaker will likely play the most significant role of his career, but Ferguson's absence probably helps the outlook of wide receiver Brandin Cooks more than anyone else.

The Cowboys are listing Ferguson as week-to-week for now, and although he does technically have a shot to play in Week 2, it would be a bit of a surprise if he did. We'll have a better idea when we see if Ferguson is able to practice at all later this week. If Ferguson is unable to play in Week 2 against the Saints, expect Luke Schoonmaker to become the team's primary pass-catching tight end, but fullback Hunter Luepke could also become more involved.
