Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson showed he was still one of the NFL's best by converting all five of his attempts in Week 7, but he faces the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 8, who allow the tenth-fewest fantasy points to opposing kickers in the NFL. In addition, Las Vegas' offense will be without its former top receiver, Davante Adams, for the season, and could be missing Jakobi Meyers (ankle), who didn't practice Thursday. QB Gardner Minshew II will start in place of Aidan O'Connell (thumb), who is now on injured reserve. It's a nightmare matchup for a struggling and depleted offense, so we may not see much of Carlson's leg on Sunday. He's not an appealing starting option in any fantasy leagues.
Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson reminded the fantasy world that he's still great in the Week 7 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Carlson booted two kicks of 27 yards, two of 38 yards, and one of 47 yards, all without missing an attempt. He didn't have any opportunities for extra points. It was an uncharacteristic game for the seventh-year pro in that he had just ten field goal attempts through his first six games. While he's a great player at his position, the opportunities for days like this could remain few and far between. The Rams defense has been one of the league's worst. Next, the Raiders will face one of the league's best defenses when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs. Carlson is unlikely to get much volume and is mostly an option in very deep leagues.
Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson should have some opportunities to score points when his tame takes on the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7. The Rams have allowed the 13th-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing kickers, ranking around the middle of the league. It may be tough for the Raiders to get much going, though, as they'll field a depleted offense. Star WR Davante Adams has left for the Jets and new lead WR Jakobi Meyers (ankle) is unlikely to play. The Raiders have struggled offensively in both phases of the game. Carlson has a history of great accuracy, though. He's hit 87.6% of field goal attempts in his career, so he could be worth starting in very deep leagues.
Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson will have to hope for his team to get drives into his field-goal range when they take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6, though that could be wishful thinking. The Steelers have allowed the fourth-least fantasy points per game to opposing kickers this season, mainly due to their strong defense. The Las Vegas offense does not match up well with any good defense, so we could see another game in which Carlson has too few kick opportunities to be fantasy-relevant. He's made 8/10 of his field goals and is a perfect eight-for-eight on extra points, but that's not been enough volume to make him worth starting in fantasy leagues. He should remain on waivers as he is the 27th-ranked kicker in RotoBaller's Week 6 fantasy football rankings.
Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson continues to be given too little opportunity to succeed by his offense. Against the Denver Broncos in Week 5, the seventh-year vet drilled his only attempt and converted a single extra point in Sunday's 34-18 loss. That's not a recipe for fantasy success for a kicker. He converted an extra point attempt early in the first quarter, a 40-yard attempt late in the first, and didn't have another attempt for the remainder of the game. The Raiders offense was stymied by the Broncos defense. Carlson has attempted just four field goals in his last two games and can't make up for that lack of volume with many extra points since his team isn't scoring much. He is still not worth picking up off waivers and should be dropped from rosters. The Raiders face an excellent Pittsburgh Steelers defense in Week 6 that's allowed the fifth-least fantasy points to opposing kickers this season. With the tough matchup against Pittsburgh, fantasy managers should look elsewhere for a streaming kicker option in Week 6.
