Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix looked shaky again in his second career NFL game in the 13-6 loss to the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday in Denver. Nix and the Broncos offense had almost zero highlights on the day, although they did outgain the Steelers offense 295 to 251. The first-round rookie signal-caller failed to lead the team to a single touchdown drive on the day, going 20-for-35 for 246 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions while carrying the ball four times for 25 yards on the ground. Nix's first pick was a throw off his heels in the pocket into coverage in the back of the end zone in the third quarter. He also ended the contest with a desperation heave down the field. Things won't get any easier for the 24-year-old in a Week 3 road contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he'll be a QB3 in fantasy.
Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix was a little wobbly, as expected, in the Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on the road, but head coach Sean Payton mostly thinks that the team's offensive weapons need to step up around Nix. The 24-year-old Oregon product finished 26-for-42 for 138 yards and two interceptions while carrying the ball five times for 35 yards and a rushing TD. Thirteen of his completions went for four or fewer yards. At best, Nix will be a low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers in superflex leagues against a swarming Steelers defense. Expect Denver to prioritize the ground game a bit more against Pittsburgh while continuing to mostly give Nix shorter targets to help him succeed and build his confidence. The Steelers held Kirk Cousins to 155 yards passing in Week 1. Nix has a tough opening schedule, so fantasy managers should expect more growing pains.
Denver Broncos rookie first-round quarterback Bo Nix predictably struggled in his NFL debut in a hostile environment at Lumen Field in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks in the team's 26-20 loss. Nix went 26-for-42 for 138 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran the ball five times for 35 yards and the first touchdown of his NFL career. The 24-year-old Oregon product had a couple of careless throws that cost him in this one, but he did show a nice ability to make plays outside of the pocket with his legs. His rushing score came late in the game to draw the Broncos to within six, but they couldn't pull off the comeback. Not many people were expecting Nix to go into Seattle and put up big numbers in his first NFL start. Nix has intriguing athletic ability but should be only considered a QB2/3 in superflex leagues heading into Week 2 against a strong Pittsburgh Steelers defense.
Denver Broncos rookie first-round quarterback Bo Nix looked great in training camp and the preseason while quickly winning over the coaching staff and being named the starter over Jarrett Stidham. Many analysts thought Denver reached for the Oregon product with the 12th overall selection back in April, but head coach Sean Payton really likes him, and Nix's athleticism and strong arm could help him excel in the system right away. With that said, there is a lot of pressure on the 24-year-old as Denver's first rookie to start the season opener since legend John Elway in the early 1980's. In addition to that pressure, he'll be making his first NFL regular-season start in the harsh environment at Lumen Field in Seattle against the Seahawks. While Nix is an excellent stash in dynasty/keeper leagues, he's only worth a bench spot in two-QB superflex leagues in his rookie campaign as a QB3 heading into Week 1.
Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix was named one of the team captains for the upcoming season. He's the first Denver rookie to be selected as a captain since 1967. The 12th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft won the starting quarterback job over Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson in training camp. Receiver Courtland Sutton, guard Quinn Meinerz, cornerback Pat Surtain II, linebacker Alex Singleton, and kicker Wil Lutz will also sport captain patches on their jerseys this fall. Nix is RotoBaller's 27th-ranked quarterback for fantasy football this season and only needs to be rostered as a QB3 in Dynasty and Superflex formats while he adjusts to the NFL game. The Broncos travel to Seattle for a matchup against the Seahawks in Week 1.
