Mike Williams Not Expected To Be Ready For Training Camp

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) is unlikely to take part in training camp, according to general manager Joe Douglas. "Mike's rehabbing the knee injury. I would say he's not gonna be ready for the start of training camp, but again, there's a lot of time, so we'll see how the rehab progresses, Douglas said. "There's a lot of checkpoints to hit, but we do feel confident that he's gonna be ready for the year." The 29-year-old is coming off an ACL tear he suffered in Week 3 of last season, so the injury update is not much of a surprise. The longtime Los Angeles Charger is expected to fill the WR2 role behind Garrett Wilson this season. Although he has durability concerns, the contested-catch specialist could do serious damage with Aaron Rodgers at the helm, making him an intriguing best ball target in 2024.

Steelers Say Russell Wilson "Has Pole Position" To Be Starting QB

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reiterated that quarterback Russell Wilson "has pole position" to be the team's starting QB in 2024. And "when it's time to compete, Justin Fields will be given an opportunity to show his capabilities," Tomlin said. The head coach also said that Fields "oozes talent." The Steelers are going to run with the more experienced 35-year-old Wilson over Fields to open the 2024 campaign after signing Wilson to a one-year deal this offseason. Wilson had a nice bounce-back campaign in 2023 with the Denver Broncos, throwing 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions in 15 games, but he'll be looking over his shoulder in the Steel City and doesn't exactly have a ton of receiving options to work with in what's expected to be a run-first offense under Arthur Smith. Although Fields is set to start as the backup, he has way more QB1 upside in fantasy.

Mike Williams Says He'll Be Ready For Week 1

New York Jets wide receiver Mike Williams (knee), who is four-plus months removed from surgery to fix a torn ACL, said that he will be ready for Week 1 this fall. Williams tore his ACL in Week 3 with the Los Angeles Chargers last year and missed the rest of the season. The 29-year-old was cut by the Bolts for salary cap purposes this offseason and quickly signed a one-year deal with the Jets worth up to $15 million in 2024. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound former first-rounder will give quarterback Aaron Rodgers a big target across from Garrett Wilson, which should allow him to put up some spike weeks for fantasy managers. However, it remains to be seen how effective the oft-injured wideout will coming off his significant knee injury. Most likely, Williams will be a boom-or-bust fantasy receiver in 2024 with plenty of injury risk.

Mike Williams Signing With Jets

Former Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) is signing with the New York Jets, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. The 29-year-old will ink a one-year deal worth up to $15 million. Williams was recently released by the Chargers after seven seasons with the organization. He totaled 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns with the Bolts. He'll now join an offense with Aaron Rodgers, Breece Hall, and Garrett Wilson, so assuming he has a successful recovery from a torn ACL suffered in Week 3 of last season, he could be due for spike weeks in 2024 fantasy football. That said, he has struggled to stay on the field over the last two years after a 1,146-yard season in 2021, so fantasy managers should proceed with caution when considering him in drafts this year.

Mike Williams Has Multiple Suitors

Free-agent wide receiver Mike Williams reportedly has scheduled visits with multiple teams this upcoming week. The Los Angeles Chargers made Williams a cap-casualty late last week. Since then, the Chargers have traded fellow wideout Keenan Allen and expressed interest in bringing back Williams. Despite that, Williams is scheduled to visit with the New York Jets, Carolina Panthers, and Pittsburgh Steelers this week. All three teams have a need for Williams, so he'd likely be a legitimate threat on any of them. Williams does have a lengthy injury history but has proven to be reliable when healthy.
