Malik Washington Flashes Explosiveness Friday

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Malik Washington stuffed the stat sheet Friday in the team's 24-13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The rookie wideout showed his versatility in the team's final preseason game, highlighted by his athleticism and field-flipping ability. Washington was the recipient of a Mike White pass on the Dolphins' first play from scrimmage -- a screen that went for a pickup of seven yards. He did leave the game for a few plays on the next possession but returned shortly after that and, on Miami's third drive of the night, took an end around and sprinted up the sideline for a gain of 40 yards. Washington then made his mark on the game again in the second quarter when he took a kickoff from his own 1-yard line to the 46 for an electric gain of 45. He also had one pun return for 28 yards. It was a productive day for the Virginia product as he racked up 120 all-purpose yards -- putting his best on display as we head into the season. As Yahoo!'s WR274 in ADP, he's an afterthought, but the speedy rookie may be an asset if your league puts return yards at a premium. Otherwise, he is a distant depth piece at wide receiver for Miami rather than a target for fantasy managers sans best ball and dynasty formats.

Skylar Thompson Has Efficient Outing In Loss

Miami Dolphins quarterback Skylar Thompson completed 19 of 27 passes for 190 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the team's 24-14 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Friday night. Quarterback Mike White started the game for Miami and racked up just 39 yards on five of nine completions. On his drives, the Dolphins went three-and-out once and failed to convert two fourth downs. Thompson entered the game in the second quarter and immediately drove the team down the field for a score -- connecting with tight end Hayden Rucci three times, including a 20-yard touchdown. He then engineered another scoring drive in the third, hitting wide receiver Kyric McGowan for a one-yard touchdown. That would be the final time the Dolphins scored. It was an efficient night for Thompson as he makes his case to climb the depth chart and be the primary backup to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The next time we see Miami suit up for action will be their home opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars two weeks from Sunday.

Deneric Prince Flops In Loss To Bears

Kansas City Chiefs running back Deneric Prince flopped in his final chance to leave an impression in Thursday's preseason loss to the visiting Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium, going backward for one yard on three rushing attempts and catching his lone pass for three yards in the defeat. Prince had a chance this summer to unseat incumbent veteran Clyde Edwards-Helaire (illness) as KC's No. 2 back as he deals with post-traumatic stress disorder, but Thursday's effort likely wasn't enough for him to seize the primary change-of-pace role behind workhorse starter Isiah Pacheco. The 24-year-old power back remains likely to make KC's roster as a third- or fourth-string RB, but undrafted rookie Carson Steele has turned heads during the preseason, and Keaontay Ingram also showed well on Thursday against the Bears.

Jaylen Waddle Back At Wednesday's Practice

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (undisclosed) missed two weeks of training camp practice due to an undisclosed injury, but he was back on the practice field on Wednesday and is fully expected to be good for the Week 1 regular-season opener in two weeks. Waddle was taking part in individual drills on Wednesday during their joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tyreek Hill (thumb) is being held out on Wednesday as a precaution, and Odell Beckham Jr. (undisclosed) hasn't practiced all summer, so Miami's receiving corps is banged up, to put it lightly. The 25-year-old Waddle probably won't play in Friday's preseason finale against the Bucs, but fantasy managers shouldn't be worried that he won't be ready for the regular-season opener. Even with Hill soaking up tons of targets, Waddle qualifies as a strong WR2 target in fantasy after his third straight 1,000-yard campaign in 2023.

Tyreek Hill Dealing With Thumb Injury, Not Expected To Impact Week 1 Availability

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (thumb) is dealing with a minor right-thumb injury that will keep him out of most, if not all, of Wednesday's joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The odds are near zero that Hill will play in Friday's preseason finale. He was limited in practice on Tuesday and was wearing a brace on his hand/wrist. Head coach Mike McDaniel said the injury isn't expected to impact Hill's availability for the Week 1 regular-season opener. Basically, the Dolphins are playing it safe with the Cheetah this week. If it was already the regular season, Hill would most likely be practicing and playing. Fantasy managers should have no worries selecting the 30-year-old speedster as one of the first wideouts off the board with one of the first picks of the first round in upcoming drafts. Hill led the NFL with 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 regular-season games in 2023.
