Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has not yet been ruled out of the Week 3 contest against the Seattle Seahawks. During an appearance on 93.3 KJR Seahawks radio, Jori Epstein of Yahoo Sports said, "There are some around the league who think he may play in Seattle this weekend." While it seems unrealistic for him to suit up just over a week after a scary concussion on Thursday Night Football, it sounds like it's not entirely out of the question. Needless to say, this is a situation worth monitoring, but it's still more likely that he sits out rather than plays. If he cannot suit up against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3, Skylar Thompson is expected to get the start.
Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel offered an encouraging update on quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's (concussion) status on Monday. "He's downstairs today, smiling with his teammates," said McDaniel. "As far as I'm concerned, you're in the protocol and he's doing well today and we take it day by day." His coach also noted that he's been working diligently with the training staff. Tagovailoa has been the center of much controversy after suffering his third (official) concussion since the beginning of 2022, with many speculating he may hang it up due to the most recent injury. It's excellent news for the fifth-year QB, though -- who is on record saying he has no plans to retire from football. We'll unlikely see the Alabama product suit up in Week 3 when Miami squares up for a road tilt against the hosting Seattle Seahawks. However, this news at least opens the door for his potential return in Week 4 against the Titans.UPDATE: According to McDaniel, there isn't enough information yet to determine if Tagovailoa is going on Injured Reserve, which would force him to miss at least four games. The decision has not been discussed with Tua.
The Miami Dolphins signed quarterback Tyler Huntley off of the Baltimore Ravens' practice squad on Monday, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The former Utah signal-caller has appeared in 20 games for the Ravens through his first four NFL seasons and has compiled 1,957 passing yards, eight passing touchdowns, seven interceptions, 509 rushing yards, and three rushing scores. Huntley was named a Pro Bowler in 2022. This move comes after Tua Tagovailoa (head) suffered another scary concussion during the Thursday Night Football loss to the Buffalo Bills. Although Skylar Thompson is expected to be the starter in Miami, he could be benched in favor of Huntley at some point if the offense struggles. Neither likely presents much upside in single-QB leagues, but both are now on the fantasy radar in superflex and two-QB formats. It's unclear how long Tagovailoa could be out, but he is reportedly not considering retirement.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has been subject to a bunch of rumors following his injury during Thursday's game against the Buffalo Bills. The young signal-caller suffered what appears to be his fourth concussion over the last five years. As a result, Tagovailoa will meet with neurologists this week to discuss his current condition and his future in the league. However, Tagovailoa has already said he has no plans to retire. He's already seeing concussion specialists and will continue to do so going forward. There still remains no timetable for Tagovailoa's return, but there should be more updates in the coming weeks. Until then, Skylar Thompson figures to start under center for Week 3 and possibly longer.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is reportedly scheduled to meet with neurologists early next week. This news comes after Tagovailoa was diagnosed with a concussion following an early exit from Thursday's game against the Buffalo Bills. The meeting with the neurologists should give Tagovailoa better input on his situation and whether or not it's safe for him to play football again. The young quarterback has already been diagnosed with four concussions over the last five years. Dolphins' head coach Mike McDaniel said he wants Tagovailoa to focus on his health, which basically means there's no timetable for his return. Skylar Thompson figures to be the starting quarterback unless the team makes a trade or signs a free agent. The Dolphins are likely going to wait until they get more information on Tagovailoa's status before they make any significant moves.
