Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias said that first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is expected to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment this week, and the team is hoping he will return before the end of the regular season at the end of the month. The Orioles would love to be able to get Mountcastle some at-bats at the end of the regular season before they begin the playoffs in October. The 27-year-old first baseman has been out since Aug. 22 due to a left-wrist sprain. The 27-year-old right-handed hitter hit a career-high 33 home runs in 2021, but his power has been on the decline ever since, and he's hit only 13 round-trippers in 118 games in 2024. Mountcastle's wrist injury isn't going to help his power game to finish out the year and in the playoffs. When healthy, Mountcastle has been Baltimore's primary first baseman in 2024.
Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde thinks that first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) will be able to come off the 10-day injured list before the end of the 2024 regular season in September. "I think he's going to come back by the end of the regular season, I just don't know when," Hyde said on Monday. Mountcastle is recovering from a left-wrist sprain that he suffered on Aug. 22 against the Houston Astros during a slide into second base. The 27-year-old started swinging a bat last Friday and is slowly working his way up in baseball activities before potentially going on a minor-league rehab assignment. The O's won't rush him back with a postseason spot pretty secure, and Mountcastle is unlikely to help much in fantasy the rest of the way if he does come back in September. His power has been down yet again in 2024 with only 13 homers after hitting a career-high 33 in 2021.
Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is feeling a little better but hasn't resumed swinging a bat. "I have no idea about Monty," Hyde said. With no timetable for a return, fantasy managers can't be expecting Mountcastle to return from the 10-day injured list when he's eligible. The 27-year-old is dealing with a sprained left wrist that he suffered on Aug. 22 and might be pushing it to return by the end of the regular season in September. It's more bad news for a player that had already seen another drop in power after hitting a career-high 33 home runs back in 2021. Mountcastle has just 13 long balls this year with 61 RBI in 118 games played. Ryan O'Hearn should continue to operate in the strong side of a platoon at first base with Emmanuel Rivera in Baltimore for however long Mountcastle remains on the shelf.
The Baltimore Orioles placed first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 23) on Monday with a sprained left wrist. The earliest Mountcastle can return to the O's is on Sept. 2. In a corresponding move, Baltimore recalled infielder Livan Soto from Triple-A Norfolk. Mountcastle injured his left wrist sliding into second base last Thursday and will now be forced to miss some time as a result. Fantasy managers shouldn't be surprised if the 27-year-old first baseman isn't ready to come off the IL when he's eligible on Sept. 2. With Mountcastle out for the time being, Ryan O'Hearn should see most of the starts at first base for the Orioles, with outfielder Eloy Jimenez also getting more run as the team's designated hitter. Mountcastle's power has been in decline now for four straight seasons after hitting a career-high 33 long balls in 2021.
Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) is out of Saturday's game due to a wrist injury. The 27-year-old was also kept out of yesterday's lineup. As a result, Ryan O'Hearn will cover first base and bat in the eight-hole. Even though Mountcastle is set to miss his second consecutive game, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day entering Sunday. Before the injury, the infielder was in a bit of a slump, with a .229 AVG in his previous 12 games. Overall, Mountcastle carries a solid .265/.305/.425 line with 13 long balls this summer. O'Hearn has been riding a strong .265 AVG since the start of the month but is best to leave out of your DFS lineup as he will face Houston southpaw Framber Valdez who has held a 1.27 ERA and a 0.56 WHIP in his past three outings.
