Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (arm) left his start early on Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals with arm fatigue for the second time in three starts. Scherzer gave up three runs in four innings but was pulled after throwing just 68 pitches. The 40-year-old said he felt better than his start on July 20 against the Baltimore Orioles, when he gave up four runs in two innings, but clearly not as good as his start against the White Sox on July 25, when he threw six innings of one-run ball. Scherzer isn't too concerned, though, and doesn't think it's an injury and won't need to go on the injured list anytime soon. Even if the future Hall of Famer doesn't go on the IL, this is a worrying trend for a veteran pitcher with as much tread on the tires as Scherzer has. The eight-time All-Star has an ERA under 4.00 but continues to see his strikeout rate drop as he nears the tail end of his fantastic MLB career.
Texas Rangers veteran Max Scherzer fanned nine White Sox hitters Thursday en route to a 2-1 victory. The veteran went six strong innings, surrendering three hits and one run on his way to a quality start. Scherzer moves his record to 2-3 with a 3.57 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP on the season. He has 33 strikeouts in 35 innings. The Rangers are making their move in the AL West, and are now 51-52 and only five games behind in the standings. The team will need a big performance from Scherzer down the stretch if they hope to make the playoffs.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Max Scherzer (arm) is scheduled to take the ball against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. This is good news after Scherzer had an early exit during his outing on Saturday due to arm fatigue. It appears Scherzer has avoided serious injury and will get the ball again later this week. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Scherzer back in their lineups for a favorable matchup against the struggling White Sox offense.
When asked if he'd be willing to waive his no-trade clause again at this year's trade deadline, Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer said, "Yeah, I'm not gonna do that...we're gonna play better baseball. It's gonna be a moot point t even talk abut...we're gonna win here." Scherzer has waived his no-trade clause to facilitate a trade in three of the last five years, but it sounds like that isn't in the cards in 2024. The Rangers have won five straight heading into Wednesday's action and are 5.5 games behind the American League West-leading Seattle Mariners, while they sit seven games out of the final wild-card spot in the AL. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer had back surgery in the offseason and suffered a setback with his thumb along the way, so he's only managed to make four starts to this point for Texas. He's looked good in those four starts, giving up eight runs (four earned) while walking only three and striking out 17 in 23 1/3 innings.
Texas Rangers right-hander Max Scherzer (thumb) has been cleared to make his next start on Friday in Baltimore against the Orioles after reporting some thumb soreness following his 2024 debut on Sunday against the Kansas City Royals. Scherzer impressed after coming off the 60-day injured list against KC, tossing five scoreless innings while giving up just one hit, walking none and striking out four. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer had offseason back surgery and then suffered a setback with his thumb during his rehab, which is why he didn't make his season debut until this past Sunday. He appears to have avoided a serious issue with his thumb, although fantasy managers shouldn't expect an encore performance on Friday against the strong lineup of the O's.
