Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (groin) has been placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday. This news comes a day after Gray was pulled while warming up for his start on Sunday. The organization will give Gray a few weeks off while he recovers from a right groin strain. Dane Dunning figures to take over the vacant spot in the rotation. However, it's worth noting that left-hander Cody Bradford (back) was activated off the injured list on Monday. The Rangers could go multiple ways with this so fantasy managers will need to check back for another update.
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Jon Gray (undisclosed) was pulled from Sunday's game, according to Shawn McFarland. The training staff went to check on the presumptive starter during warmups and eventually took him off the field before he even threw a pitch. Gray logged a season-high seven innings of work in his last start against the Chicago White Sox. Overall, the 32-year-old has held a modest 3.73 ERA and 1.26 WHIP through 94 frames this season. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to any updates on the right-hander after Sunday's game. If he were to miss a turn in the rotation, Jose Urena would be a strong candidate to make a spot start.UPDATE: Gray left Sunday's start with right-groin discomfort and will continue to be evaluated. He spent two weeks on the injured list in May-June with a right-groin strain, so he could be headed back to the IL.
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray didn't have it on Thursday in his outing at Camden Yards against the Baltimore Orioles, as he gave up eight earned runs on nine hits (two home runs) while walking one and striking out only one in five innings of work to fall to 3-4 on the year. The poor outing dropped his season ERA to 3.77 and his WHIP to 1.28 in 16 total appearances (14 starts) covering 76 1/3 innings. Gray now has two terrible performances -- he gave up a season-high nine earned runs in just three innings against the New York Mets on June 17 -- in his last three outings, with a six-inning shutout in between on June 22 against the Kansas City Royals. Coming into the month of June, Gray had an ERA below 3.00, but he's struggled this month and will be a shaky fantasy play his next time out for the Rangers.
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray will be moved up to make his next start on Saturday against the visiting Kansas City Royals, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Right-hander Max Scherzer (back, thumb) was supposed to make his 2024 debut on Saturday, but the Rangers have decided to push him back as a precaution to give him at least another day. Gray was originally slated to make his next start on Monday in Milwaukee against the Brewers on seven days of rest. The 32-year-old veteran was hit hard his last time out on Monday against the Mets, giving up a season-high nine earned runs on 11 hits (two homers) while walking none with two punchouts in just three innings. Gray allowed only one earned run in his two previous starts, but he hasn't gone over three innings in any of his three starts since returning from the injured list and will have another tough matchup against KC.
Texas Rangers right-hander Jon Gray (groin) is scheduled to face live hitters on Monday. Gray wasn't expected to miss much more than the minimum 15 days on the injured list after leaving his most recent start against the Philadelphia Phillies on May 21 and then being placed on the IL two days later. Before getting hurt, Gray had a stellar 2.21 ERA through the first two months of the season to go along with a 1.19 WHIP and 56 strikeouts in 57 innings over his first 11 appearances (10 starts). The 32-year-old's injury obviously isn't considered too serious, so if he gets through Monday's session without any issues, he could be a candidate to come off the IL to start against the San Francisco Giants this Friday. If Gray is for some reason on your league's waiver wire, scoop him up now.
