Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez collected 10 strikeouts through six solid innings of work during Wednesday night's outing against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates at Minute Maid Park. It was a second consecutive showing with 10 punchouts for Valdez, who nabbed his 10th win of the year after yielding four runs on six hits and no walks against Pittsburgh on Wednesday. The 30-year-old star left-hander will bring a 2.90 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 40 K's and nine free passes over his last five appearances (31 frames) into his next scheduled showing on the road at Globe Life Field in Arlington next Wednesday for a pivotal Lone Star Series clash with the defending-champion Texas Rangers.
Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez shut down the Dodgers on Friday evening as he tossed 6 2/3 shutout innings. He allowed just four hits and two free passes. He struck out 10. The 30-year-old has enjoyed a nice turnaround across his last three outings, as he has carried a 1.42 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and a 7:26 BB:K after he posted a much higher 4.55 ERA and 1.66 WHIP through most of June. Through 110 innings this season, Valdez has held a 3.43 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, and a 38:98 BB:K. He should remain started in all leagues and will be a popular DFS play in his next start against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday, July 31.
Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez tallied another quality start with 10 strikeouts in Wednesday's superb start against the visiting Miami Marlins, helping the team win their eighth straight game at home. Wednesday's effort marked Valdez's 10th quality start of the year, and it also signified his eighth win of the season. After tossing six innings of one-run ball on six hits and one walk against the Marlins, the reliable 30-year-old southpaw has a 3.66 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 82:32 K:BB over 98 1/3 innings (16 starts) for the Astros in 2024. Valdez is as dependable as any hurler on a start-to-start basis for both Houston and fantasy managers.
Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez was solid on the mound during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The southpaw allowed one run on six hits over seven innings of work in the win. Valdez struck out seven batters while walking two hitters on the day. This wasn't an easy task for Valdez, but he turned out another strong outing. He has posted back-to-back quality outings after getting hit around by the Giants earlier this month. He'll take a 3.68 ERA into this next start against the New York Mets.
Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez (3-2) had a night to forget Monday, allowing eight runs on 10 hits while recording just three strikeouts with one walk in a 9-7 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Every starting pitcher, even the best ones, is due for a dud start now and then. The part that stings the most was that Valdez was cruising into the fifth inning with a five-run lead before the home run barrage began. The former all-star lefty allowed a three-run home run to Nolan Schanuel. Then, a few batters later, back-to-back home runs, surrendering a three-run homer by Logan O'Hoppe followed by a solo shot from Jo Adell. It's important to note that Valdez strayed away from the game plan, which was confirmed in his post-game interview: "Yainer (Diaz) did a really good job calling pitches. I was the one that decided to try and change the game plan. I had to deal with the consequences," Valdez said. Valdez should have stuck to the game plan, as going rogue skyrocketed his ERA over a whole run from a 2.95 ERA to a 4.32 ERA. Despite the ugly outing, Valdez belongs in all fantasy lineups moving forward, especially when the Astros take on the Oakland A's for his next start.
