Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter finds himself on the bench for the start of Wednesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Aaron Civale. Carter has drawn a league-leading six walks in the first five games of the season, but he's also hitless in his 22 plate appearances with an RBI, stolen base, five runs scored and two strikeouts, so the Rangers are giving him an early blow so that he can clear his head. The 21-year-old should be able to rebound eventually for his fantasy managers, but you may want to keep him out of lineups until he shows signs of life. Rookie Wyatt Langford is getting the start in left field on Wednesday and is hitting in the three-hole for Texas. Last year's fourth overall pick out of Florida has gone 6-for-21 (.286) with a triple and three RBI in his first five big-league games in 2024.
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter continued his strong Cactus League performance in Tuesday's victory versus the Seattle Mariners. The 21-year-old went 2-for-3 with five RBI. Both hits were homers, one solo and one a grand slam. He is now hitting .389 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and two stolen bases over his first 18 at-bats. Carter got the call towards to the end of last season and held his own throughout a strong postseason run. One of the young bright stars in the league, Carter's value continues to soar as spring goes on. Carter will be drafted as a No. 2/3 outfield option but has the potential the finish the season as an OF1. The potential for big value is there, and he is absolutely worth reaching for a few rounds ahead of his average draft position of 99.
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (forearm) is starting in right field and batting second in the team's Cactus League game on Tuesday versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Carter was pulled from Sunday's spring training game early against the San Francisco Giants after he was hit by a pitch on his left forearm. However, X-rays on the 21-year-old came back negative, and he was taking part in an intrasquad game on Monday. One of the top prospects in baseball, Carter made his big-league debut in 2023 and hit .306/.413/.645 with a 1.058 OPS, five home runs, 12 RBI and three steals in 23 regular-season games before becoming a lineup regular during the team's World Series run. He'll be an everyday outfielder for Texas in his first full season and will be an attractive No. 2/3 fantasy outfielder because of his 20-steal potential. However, his struggles against lefties could become an issue.
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (forearm) faced right-hander Jon Gray in an intrasquad game in camp on Monday and looks to be swinging the bat fine. Carter was hit by a pitch on his left forearm in the Cactus League game on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants and left the game early as a precaution. X-rays came back negative on the 21-year-old lefty hitter, though, and he's already back to swinging a bat. The injury was not serious, and Carter should return to Cactus League games before the end of the week. He should be just fine for Opening Day in late March. As a young outfielder with 25-stolen base potential over a full season while hitting near the top of a strong lineup in Texas, Carter has plenty of fantasy appeal as a No. 2/3 outfielder heading into his first full season in the majors.
Texas Rangers outfielder Evan Carter (forearm) left the team's Cactus League game early on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants after being hit by a pitch on his left forearm, but X-rays came back negative and he is considered day-to-day on Monday. It's good news for the 21-year-old, but the Rangers could hold him out of spring training games for a few more days to let him rest up. Either way, Carter should be just fine for Opening Day in late March. One of the top prospects in the game, Carter hit .306 (19-for-62) with five homers, 12 RBI and three stolen bases in his first 23 regular-season games in 2023 before helping the Rangers win their first World Series title last fall. He's going to hit near the top of Texas' batting order and has 20-steal potential, but his struggles against lefties could be an issue in his first full MLB season in 2024.
