Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Alek Manoah had his best start in a long time on Sunday against the Minnesota Twins. Manoah allowed three runs (none earned) across seven innings of work and only threw 78 pitches. He struck out six batters while issuing one walk. Manoah was cruising through the start, but an error by Blue Jays infielder Ernie Clement in the seventh inning turned into a three-run home run from Carlos Santana three batters later. It was nice to see Manoah hold his own against a strong lineup after he gave up seven runs in his first start of the season. He is by no means a must-roster player, but there is some more streaming intrigue surrounding him for his next projected start against the Tampa Bay Rays. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Manoah and consider picking him up if he strings together some momentum on the mound.

He showed glimpses of his former self, but overall it was a lackluster performance for the big righty. The Jays have already committed to Manoah for at least one more start, but he will have to be much better to instill confidence that they can keep rolling with him. Fantasy managers should not consider starting Manoah until he can consistently deliver good outings, and he can be dropped outside of the deepest of leagues.

The 26-year-old threw a side session on Friday after he was rocked for a 6.50 ERA across four starts with Triple-A Buffalo to begin his season. It's been tough sledding for Manoah since he was named a Cy Young finalist in the 2022 season as he posted a 5.87 ERA alongside a monster 14.2% BB% across 19 big-league starts. He was also optioned to the team's Florida spring training complex and refused an assignment to Buffalo after he scuffled in his big-league return. He will take on a Nationals offense that entered Saturday's action ranked 18th with a .303 wOBA on the season.

Manoah's return from soreness in his right shoulder appears to be on the horizon, and with rookie right-hander Yariel Rodriguez (back) getting placed on the injured list on Tuesday, Manoah appears to have a spot in Toronto's rotation waiting for him. The big 26-year-old right-hander is looking at an early-May activation from the IL, and Sunday's favorable matchup on the road against the Washington Nationals might be the date fantasy managers can circle on their calendars for Manoah's 2024 regular-season debut. Although Manoah limped to a 5.87 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and 79:59 K:BB over 87 1/3 frames last year, he'd carry streaming appeal if he ultimately takes the ball on Sunday against the Nats.
