Ricky Pearsall Released From The Hospital

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (chest) was released from the hospital on Sunday. The rookie wideout was the victim of a robbery attempt on Saturday, resulting in a gunshot wound to the chest. Fortunately, the bullet missed his vital organs. Pearsall, the No. 31 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, likely has some hurdles to clear before he even considers returning to the field. But once he does, he'll have an uphill climb before he's relevant for fantasy managers outside of dynasty formats, considering the 49ers offense currently features Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Brandon Aiyuk, and Deebo Samuel Sr.

Ricky Pearsall Suffers Gunshot Wound

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (chest) was a victim of a robbery attempt on Saturday. According to reports, Pearsall was traveling to an autograph signing when he was approached by the suspect, who demanded the rookie's Rolex watch while brandishing a firearm. A struggle ensued for the gun, resulting in both Pearsall and the suspect sustaining gunshot wounds. The wideout was transported to a local medical facility and is now in stable condition. Police also caught the suspect. There should be an update on Pearsall's condition soon. While he'll likely miss time, his health beyond the field is undoubtedly more important.

Brandon Aiyuk Signs Four-Year Extension

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has signed a four-year extension with the organization on Thursday. Finally, the drama is over as Aiyuk will be tied to the team for the next five seasons. The 49ers were forced to open their wallet as they will give Aiyuk $120 million over the next four seasons. Fantasy managers can now safely draft Aiyuk without any worries of him sitting out or a trade happening. Last season, Aiyuk finished with 75 receptions for 1,342 yards, and seven touchdowns in 16 games. The 26-year-old keeps getting better and should remain a focal point in this offense for years to come. He should have enough time to get ready in time for the regular season, so fantasy managers should have Aiyuk in their lineups for Week 1.UPDATE: The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports the 49ers were only willing to trade Aiyuk if they could get a top-tier receiver to replace him. They offered a third-round pick to the Broncos for Courtland Sutton and would have dealt Aiyuk to the Steelers, but the Broncos declined the offer.

Christian McCaffrey Still Not Ready To Practice

There's still no sign of San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (calf) at the start of practice on Thursday. It's not overly surprising to hear McCaffrey is still sidelined by his strained calf, but it's still noteworthy he hasn't fully participated in practice since early August. There's no reason to believe that fantasy's consensus No. 1 overall pick is any kind of real danger of missing the regular-season opener next Monday night against the visiting New York Jets, but he'll need to return to practice at some point next week to restore a full level of confidence in that. With Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) undergoing season-ending surgery, it makes a lot of sense to stash Jordan Mason in all settings just to be safe until CMC is in the clear for Week 1.

Brandon Aiyuk Remains Absent From Practice

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is once again not on the practice field at the early open portion of Thursday's practice. The standoff between Aiyuk and the Niners rages on, and this situation is becoming at least moderately concerning for fantasy managers with Week 1 of the regular season arriving next week. Given that he hasn't practiced with the team at all during training camp this summer, Aiyuk appears to be at risk of being limited in the Sept. 9 regular-season opener against the New York Jets due to his lack of reps, even if he stays put in San Francisco. The 26-year-old wideout is healthy, however, so he shouldn't be falling too far down rankings for the final week of drafts, considering something just has to give one way or another for the best of both sides before the season begins. Aiyuk racked up a staggering 12.8 yards per target over 105 targets last year.
