San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Chris Conley drew praise from head coach Kyle Shanahan earlier this week. Shanahan was asked how the 49ers would approach the wide receiver position in the event that Brandon Aiyuk doesn't suit up for the team in Week 1 and beyond. He expressed confidence in the team's in-house options at the position, including Conley. "Conley's had a hell of a camp," Shanahan told KNBR. "He came on strong for us last year, did a hell of a job for last year, and made a number of plays going into the playoffs, in the playoffs and in the Super Bowl. He's been on a lot of teams, too, where he's done it for a while." Shanahan also went on to mention that the team trusts its rookies, as long as they can stay healthy. Aiyuk remains a 49er and Deebo Samuel, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings are all ahead of Conley on the depth chart, but the veteran should still carve out a role, and it's no secret that the team trusts him in key, high-leverage moments down the stretch.
Free-agent wide receiver Chris Conley agreed to a one-year deal with the 49ers on Saturday. The journeyman wideout has played for five teams throughout his career, making stops in Kansas City, Jacksonville, Houston, and Tennessee before appearing in eight regular season games for San Francisco in 2023-24. He finished the year by catching just three passes (six targets) for 69 yards while failing to find the end zone. The 49ers still have Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk as their primary receivers, so Conley will continue to have a tough time getting looks from Brock Purdy, meaning he won't see much attention from fantasy managers heading into the 2024-25 campaign.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Chris Conley got his only action of the season in the team's 21-20 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. With starters Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel resting for the majority of the game, the 31-year-old journeyman took advantage of his opportunity to the tune of three receptions on six targets for 69 yards. Both the target and yardage total paced the 49ers while tying for the team lead in receptions. While it was a nice showcase, it would be a surprise if Conley were to become fantasy-relevant in the future.
