The San Francisco 49ers officially signed wide receiver Robbie Chosen to a one-year deal on Monday. Chosen has been signed amidst the intense trade speculation surrounding star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Chosen spent part of the 2023 season with the Miami Dolphins. He recorded four receptions for 126 yards and one touchdown. His best season came in 2020 when he recorded over 1,000 receiving yards with the Carolina Panthers. With Deebo Samuel Sr., Jauan Jennings, and Ricky Pearsall on the roster in addition to Aiyuk, Chosen figures to simply be a solid depth piece in this offense.
The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran free-agent wide receiver Robbie Chosen to an undisclosed deal on Thursday, according to his agents. The receiver formerly known as Robbie/Robby Anderson had multiple offers from teams but chose a team with an immediate need at the position. The Niners are on the verge of trading away star wideout Brandon Aiyuk because of his unhappiness that the team hasn't given him a long-term contract extension. In addition to Aiyuk's expected departure, rookie first-rounder Ricky Pearsall aggravated a shoulder injury this week in training camp practice, so the team is in need of depth at the position. Even if Aiyuk is traded, as expected, Chosen will likely be battling for a roster spot behind Deebo Samuel Sr., Jauan Jennings, Pearsall, rookie Jacob Cowing and Ronnie Bell.
Veteran free-agent wide receiver Robbie Chosen worked out for the San Francisco 49ers at training camp on Wednesday and was spotted on the field. The Niners appear to be on the verge of trading receiver Brandon Aiyuk, and rookie first-rounder Ricky Pearsall just aggravated his shoulder injury, so the Niners are looking for receiver depth behind Deebo Samuel, Pearsall and Jauan Jennings this summer. The 31-year-old Chosen has gone downhill since posting his only 1,000-yard season with the Carolina Panthers in 2020. In nine games with the Miami Dolphins in 2023, he caught four of six targets for 126 yards and a touchdown. If Chosen signs with the Niners, he'll strictly be competing for a depth role and won't be a lock to make the club out of training camp. Chosen has a combined 24 receptions for 408 yards and two scores the last two years.
Veteran free-agent wide receiver Robbie Chosen is participating in the Seattle Seahawks minicamp this week on a tryout basis, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The 31-year-old spent last season with the Miami Dolphins and caught four passes for 126 yards and one touchdown in nine games. Overall, Chosen has hauled in 379 receptions for 5,082 yards and 30 touchdowns in 120 games with the Dolphins, Cardinals, Panthers, and Jets. While Chosen still seems to have game-breaking speed, he hasn't been able to stick on a roster as a key contributor since his 53-catch season in 2021. With DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the Seattle wide receiver room, it would be a surprise if he entered the fantasy football radar, even if he does make the Week 1 active roster. For now, he can be safely ignored in fantasy football.
