New York Jets kicker Riley Patterson did not attempt any field goals but hit all three of his extra points in a 21-13 win over the Houston Texans in Week 9's Thursday night game. Making his debut for the Jets after they placed Greg Zuerlein (knee) on injured reserve earlier in the week, Patterson was perfect in the close win over the Texans. The veteran will presumably remain the Jets' kicker heading into a Week 10 road matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
New York Jets kicker Riley Patterson is expected to be elevated from the practice squad to make his New York debut on Thursday evening against the Houston Texans. On Wednesday, starting kicker Greg Zuerlein (knee) was placed on the injured reserve with a knee injury which opened the spot for Patterson. Before his injury, Zuerlein struggled as he went 9-for-15 on attempts this season. Patterson played for the Washington Commanders during the preseason but did not make the final roster. Throughout his NFL career, he has held a 88.1% FG% and has gone 93-for-97 on extra-point attempts. Patterson should be left on the waiver wire and remains a high-risk flex option for DFS formats on Thursday evening.
The New York Jets are signing kickers Riley Patterson and Spencer Shrader to the practice squad on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Starting kicker Greg Zuerlein (knee) is reportedly dealing with a knee injury, and his performance this season has been disastrous. The 36-year-old has made just nine of his 15 field goal tries and has missed an extra point. Patterson, who has spent time with the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, and Jacksonville Jaguars, has made 59 of his 67 field goal attempts in 39 games. Shrader is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Notre Dame and appeared in one game for the Indianapolis Colts this season, connecting on all three of his extra-point tries. The expectation is Zuerlein will not play on Thursday Night Football against the Houston Texans, and one of the newly-acquired kickers will handle kicking duties for the Jets. Neither option is high on the fantasy football radar.
The Washington Commanders are releasing kicker Riley Patterson following the trade for former Cleveland Browns kicker Cade York, according to John Keim of ESPN. Patterson has spent time with six NFL organizations since going undrafted out of Memphis in 2021. He's seen regular-season action with the Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Cleveland Browns, and has made 59 of his 67 field goal attempts through the first 39 contests of his career. Patterson's 88.1% career field goal percentage is above the league's average, so it would not be surprising if he lands another opportunity this season.
Washington Commanders kicker Riley Patterson carried over his struggles from last week as he went 2-for-4 on field goal attempts on Saturday evening. Patterson missed his two attempts from 49 yards and 43 yards, respectively, while he converted on a 46 and a 38-yard attempt. Last week, the 24-year-old went 0-for-1 from 39 yards out, while Ramiz Ahmed went 1-for-1 from 40 yards out on his lone attempt. While Patterson is currently the only kicker listed on the Washington depth chart, as Ahmed was cut earlier this week to make room for wide receiver Martavis Bryant, his inconsistency this preseason could open the door for a kicking competition. Fantasy managers should continue to pay close attention to the depth chart over the next few weeks as the starting kicker on the Commanders could be viable in standard leagues if Jayden Daniels is able to quickly adjust to the NFL.
