Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard carried the ball three times for 15 yards in the team's preseason win against the Buffalo Bills. Hubbard saw his first preseason action along with all of Carolina's starters, indicating that he has likely locked up the RB1 role for the Panthers this season. While he will serve as the main back to begin this season, Carolina's backfield remains split between him, Miles Sanders and rookie Jonathan Brooks (knee) who is working his way back from injury. A split backfield in what was a below-average rushing attack last season isn't the most ideal for fantasy purposes, and Hubbard can be viewed as a RB3/4 accordingly.
Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard (knee) is participating in Tuesday's practice in training camp. Hubbard had been dealing with a knee injury since Thursday, but it proved to be a minor setback. After the Panthers signed veteran Miles Sanders to a significant contract last offseason to be the team's lead back, Hubbard overtook him for the job by midseason in 2023. Carolina then made second-rounder Jonathon Brooks (knee) the first RB chosen in this year's NFL Draft, but the rookie is a candidate to start the year on the Physically Unable to Perform List. That likely leaves Hubbard as the club's interim lead back, and after he took 238 carries and caught 88.6% of his 44 targets last season, he's looking like a fringe RB2/3 fantasy starter for the early part of 2024.
Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard (knee) suffered a knee injury at training camp on Thursday. Head coach Dave Canales said the team had "big concerns (initially) but initial testing looks good." We'll have more information on Hubbard's injury once we know more, but it looks like he's avoided a serious injury that could keep him out for the start of the 2024 season. However, it's likely that the 25-year-old will miss some practice time and probably won't suit up for the second preseason contest this Saturday against the New York Jets. Currently at the top of Carolina's RB depth chart, any time missed by Hubbard will give rookie Jonathon Brooks and Miles Sanders more reps in camp. Brooks is the favorite to lead Carolina's offense production-wise by the end of the year, but Hubbard is also worth a late-round flier as a handcuff and bench stash in deeper leagues.
Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard carried the ball 23 times for 83 yards and added two catches for nine yards in a 9-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 18. Hubbard easily led the team in rushing in the regular-season finale as Miles Sanders saw just three touches in the loss. Hubbard ultimately turned in a successful season as he wrestled the starting role away from Sanders mid-season and never looked back. His role heading into next season remains up in the air, however, as the Panthers are likely to have a new head coach and general manager in place.
Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard ran for 45 yards on 11 carries in a loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars last week. He will look to finish off the season on a high note in a home matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 18. The Buccaneers have been tough on running backs this season as they are allowing the third-fewest fantasy points per game. Hubbard should get one more shot as the lead back to prove he's the team's starting running back heading into next season, making him a volume-based RB2 worth a look in DFS tournaments this weekend.
