Free-agent wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown has signed with the New Orleans Saints, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Originally a sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame by the Green Bay Packers in 2018, St. Brown has been utilized as a depth receiver in his six NFL seasons. In 60 career games, the 27-year-old has hauled in 63 of his 110 targets for 928 yards and two touchdowns. He's added 80 yards as a runner. Based on his career trajectory, he's unlikely to make a fantasy impact in New Orleans this year. He can be safely ignored for now.
Veteran free-agent wide receiver Dante Pettis is signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, according to Courtney Cronin of ESPN. The 2018 second-round pick last played in 2022 with Chicago, and he was released during last year's training camp with an injury settlement. Pettis has hauled in just 71 passes for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns through his first 50 regular season games. He's unlikely to be on the fantasy radar in 2024, especially since the Bears now have one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL in DJ Moore and Keenan Allen.
The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms on a deal with wide receiver Cedrick Wilson Jr. on Thursday. The salary is unknown at the moment, but it appears to be a two-year deal. The 28-year-old hasn't done much of the field since his breakout 2021 season with the Dallas Cowboys. After that, Wilson spent two years with the Miami Dolphins where he posted below average campaigns. This looks like a low-risk move for the Saints who are trying to add depth after moving on from Michael Thomas.
The New Orleans Saints tendered the exclusive rights to wide receiver Rashid Shaheed for a one-year tag worth $985,000. Shaheed caught 46 passes for 719 receiving yards and five touchdowns over five touchdowns in 15 games in 2023. The Saints plan to release Michael Thomas this offseason, and Shaheed could secure New Orleans' No. 2 receiver role behind top wideout Chris Olave. While Thomas was sidelined from Weeks 12 through 18, Shaheed caught 15 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns over five games. The 25-year-old did miss two weeks due to a thigh injury. Shaheed has always been a boom-or-bust fantasy option and is a better fantasy option in best-ball leagues than standard PPR formats.
The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling ahead of free agency in a cap-saving move. According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the team saves $12 million on the cap. The veteran speedster spent two seasons with the Chiefs, totaling 63 receptions for 1,002 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 33 games. He wasn't overly productive, but he did catch two touchdowns in the 2022 playoffs and caught a touchdown in the victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. Valdes-Scantling is unlikely to sign a big-money deal this offseason, but his field-stretching skill set will be attractive to a few teams.
