Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards rushed 10 times for 40 yards in the team's 34-10 victory over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round. Despite the Ravens establishing an early lead in the second half and maintaining control, teammate Justice Hill led the backfield in touches. Edwards left the game in the second half due to injury and did not return, but Coach John Harbaugh said he is okay. Both running backs averaged at least four yards per carry, highlighting an unstoppable rushing attack in the second half while the Texans struggled to contain them. The Ravens are poised to host the AFC Championship in the next game against either the Chiefs or Bills, both of whom rank below league average in DVOA against the run. Both potential opponents limited points to running backs this year, and evaluating the Ravens' backfield remains challenging due to the committee approach and a quarterback who serves as the primary threat in the rushing attack.
Baltimore Ravens running back Gus Edwards has never instilled confidence into fantasy managers when they need to start him. There isn't really anyone in the Ravens backfield that is a surefire fantasy lineup lock, and it's been that way for a long time now. The Houston Texans sit right around the middle of the pack as they were tied for the 14th toughest defense against opposing running backs. While they've given up 12 touchdowns to running backs this year, they've allowed the sixth-fewest rushing yards and the lowest amount of yards per carry in the league. Edwards' saving grace is his red zone opportunities which seem to have shrunk toward the end of the season. So, this doesn't bode well for Edwards and makes him a touchdown-dependent option.
Carolina Panthers tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) said he cleared the league's concussion protocol on Sunday and is looking forward to a fresh start. Hurst suffered a serious concussion in Week 10 and never played again in the 2023 season. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia and was eventually placed on Injured Reserve. In his nine games played in his first year in Carolina, Hurst caught only 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in the worst offense in football in which rookie quarterback Bryce Young struggled mightily. He signed a three-year, $21.75 million deal last offseason, so Hurst will be back in 2024 with a new head coach and new general manager running things in Carolina. Depending on whether a new coaching staff can get more out of Young and this offense, Hurst could improve if he can stay healthy.
Seattle Seahawks tight end Will Dissly had 46 receiving yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals. While Dissly was the one who scored, it was Colby Parkinson who saw the biggest increase in snaps after the early departure of Noah Fant (hand) due to injury. Both tight ends tied with wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to lead the team in receptions with three apiece. In a season where Seattle's offensive line was often injured and struggling to hold their ground, the Seahawks rotated their tight ends frequently and utilized them as extra blockers more often than not. As such, the touchdown was Dissly was rarely involved in the passing game and his production in Week 18 leaves him with a final tally of 17 catches for 172 yards and one touchdown in 2023.
Los Angeles Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker scored all of the Chargers points for a second game in a row in a Week 18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs backup squad. Dicker made all four of his field goal tries to wrap up an impressive season in which he was one of the few bright spots for a slumping Los Angeles team. Week 18 saw Dicker make field goals from 49, 40, 43, and 20 yards out. For the first time in a long time, the Chargers had a solid special teams unit this season. The problem was, the offense and defense were both mired in season-long slumps.
