Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson completed eight of his 14 passes for 86 yards, throwing one touchdown and one interception in the team's preseason win against the Bengals. Richardson carried the ball once for an additional three yards on the ground. The second-year QB found rookie WR Adonai Mitchell for a touchdown in the first quarter, following it up with a pick-six on the next drive. The former Gator played 25 snaps in the first and second quarters before being taken out. While it wasn't the most encouraging performance from Richardson, he is still a high-end QB1 in fantasy this season with his rushing upside and arm power.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson struggled mightily during Tuesday's joint practice with the Cincinnati Bengals. According to Nate Adkins of the Indy Star, Richardson faced tremendous pressure against the Bengals' starting defense, and he started 3-of-10 as a passer during team drills. His day didn't get much better, as he finished 10 for 20 and an interception. Richardson has started in just 17 games since high school, and his numerous injuries as a rookie likely slowed down his development. However, he is still just 22 years old, and many believed he'd be a project when entering the NFL as a first-round pick. While the Colts could struggle in the passing game early on, Richardson's elite rushing ceiling keeps him as a potential high-end QB1 in 2024 fantasy football. Head coach Shane Steichen has been vocal about not reducing Richardson's role on the ground, and if that is the case, he could contend to lead the position in rushing yards and touchdowns. Players like Justin Fields and early-career Josh Allen have had success in fantasy football despite looking overwhelmed as a passer. Richardson could fit that bill in his sophomore campaign.
Indianapolis Colts tight end Jelani Woods (toe) will miss "considerable time," head coach Shane Steichen told Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. "I don't have a timetable on it," Steichen explained. Holder added that Woods' absence will extend into the regular season and could impact roster decisions. The Colts have plenty of options with Woods, including a potential injured reserve placement before or after rosters trim down in one week. None of the Colts' tight ends are appealing options in fantasy football this year, but an injury to Woods could create some additional opportunities for the team's top two players at the position, Kylen Granson and Mo Alie-Cox.UPDATE: Woods is expected to undergo surgery on his toe, according to a source.
The Miami Dolphins released running back Salvon Ahmed on Monday, according to NFL insider Ari Meirov. Ahmed went undrafted out of Washington in 2020 and spent four years with Miami following a brief stint with the San Francisco 49ers. In 38 career games, he rushed 163 times for 593 yards and five touchdowns to go along with 40 receptions for 274 yards and one score. With the Dolphins adding rookie Jaylen Wright to an already-crowded running back room featuring Raheem Mostert and De'Von Achane, the writing was on the wall for the end of Ahmed's tenure in Miami. Given the injury rate at the running back position, it wouldn't be surprising if he's on an active roster for another team before the 2024 NFL season wraps up.
Indianapolis Colts running back Tyler Goodson ran the ball six times for 35 yards and a touchdown in the team's win against the Cardinals on Saturday. Goodson has now scored in both the Colts' preseason games and played as the RB2 behind Jonathan Taylor in both games. With Trey Sermon's (hamstring) injury keeping him off the field, Goodson is looking to lock up the RB2 role behind Taylor. Depending on Sermon's injury status, Goodson does provide fantasy relevancy as the potential handcuff to Taylor this season.
