Jake Ferguson Could Play In Week 2

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (knee) could still play in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints after being diagnosed with a bone bruise and a minor sprain of the MCL in his left knee that he suffered in the Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, according to a source. The Cowboys are listing Ferguson as week-to-week for now, and although he does technically have a shot to play in Week 2, it would be a bit of a surprise if he did. We'll have a better idea when we see if Ferguson is able to practice at all later this week. If Ferguson is unable to play in Week 2 against the Saints, expect Luke Schoonmaker to become the team's primary pass-catching tight end, but fullback Hunter Luepke could also become more involved. Schoonmaker wouldn't be anything more than a sleeper TE2 play in deeper fantasy leagues if Ferguson is out in Week 2 and beyond.UPDATE: Head coach Mike McCarthy said the team had "good news" on Ferguson, who will work in the "return-to-play group" in Wednesday's practice.

Jake Ferguson Week-To-Week With MCL Sprain

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson left Sunday's 33-17 Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns with a knee injury. Many feared the talented tight end suffered a season-ending injury. Thankfully, tests revealed that Ferguson only suffered a bone bruise and an MCL sprain. The team is listing him as week-to-week, meaning he could return sooner than later. Yet, Ferguson could get placed on injured reserve later in the week, knocking him out for at least four games. 2023 second-round pick Luke Schoonmaker is the most likely candidate to replace Ferguson as Dallas' starting tight end. He is worth a speculative add off the waiver wire. However, Schoonmaker is not someone fantasy players should start in Week 2 unless they are extremely desperate.

Jake Ferguson Scheduled For MRI Monday

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (knee) is slated to undergo an MRI on Monday when the team returns to Dallas. Ferguson left the team's 33-17 victory over the Cleveland Browns in the third quarter after he landed awkwardly attempting to go over the top of a Cleveland defender. Before his exit, he caught 3-of-5 targets for 15 yards. The third-year TE was seen with his left knee wrapped in ice after leaving the team's locker room post-game, and we expect to get an update on him after his imaging tomorrow. For what it's worth, Ferguson was quoted as hoping "it's just hyper-extended" and said that he felt he could have played through it. It's always alarming when a player crops up with a knee issue, but his sentiment towards the injury is at least encouraging. He'll be a player to monitor over the next 24 hours. The Cowboys will square off against the New Orleans Saints in their home opener next Sunday in Week 2.

Brandon Aubrey Makes Seven Kicks In Week 1 Win

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey made all seven of his kicks in a Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. He made four field goals and three extra points, putting up 15 of the Cowboys 33 points. Aubrey's field goals came from 57, 40, 50, and 46 yards out. He was the top-scoring fantasy kicker last season and could very well be on his way to doing that again this year.

Jake Ferguson Makes Three Catches Before Leaving With A Knee Injury

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (knee) was targeted five times in a Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns. He made three catches and gained 15 yards before having to be helped off the field after a catch in the third quarter. After the game, head coach Mike McCarthy said Ferguson was "in good spirits and moving around well." More information will certainly come out soon, but for now it does not seem like Ferguson will need to miss any significant time. Just in case, Luke Schoonmaker is next up on the Cowboys tight end depth chart.
