Bengals Could Make Ja'Marr Chase Highest-Paid Wide Receiver

The Cincinnati Bengals and wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase are still in contract negotiations, and if the two sides reach a new deal, it could make him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the contract talks are centered around reaching a deal that matches or surpasses Chase's former college teammate, Justin Jefferson. The Vikings All-Pro signed a four-year, $140 million extension this offseason, so that's the ballpark Chase is reportedly looking to be in. The good news is head coach Zac Taylor said he feels confident that Chase will play in Week 1, so fantasy managers can continue to consider him in the top five of fantasy drafts in all scoring formats. Despite playing with an injured quarterback Joe Burrow or backup Jake Browning last year, Chase tallied 100 receptions for 1,216 yards and seven touchdowns. If Burrow is at full health in 2024, the superstar wideout could be in contention to finish as the overall WR1.

Bengals Confident Ja'Marr Chase Will Play In Week 1

When asked if he was confident that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase will play in Week 1 of the 2024 regular season, head coach Zac Taylor said, "Yes." Chase has been holding in at training camp this summer due to a contract dispute with the team before taking part in practice for the first time this past Sunday. The two sides still have a bit of time before the start of the regular season to work out a long-term contract extension, but even if they don't, it sounds like the 24-year-old isn't thinking about an in-season holdout. It's good news for fantasy managers that have already taken Chase in the first round of their drafts as their WR1. Contract issues aside, the former fifth overall pick in 2021 out of LSU has excellent chemistry with quarterback Joe Burrow and has one of the highest ceilings of any pass-catcher in the league. He's totaled 3,717 yards and 29 touchdowns on 268 catches in his three seasons so far.

Ja'Marr Chase Takes Part In Sunday's Practice

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase took part in practice on Sunday despite not having secured a new long-term contract extension from the team. It is the first time that Chase has practiced with the team at training camp this summer. The 2024 regular season starts for Cincy two weeks from this Sunday -- on Sept. 8 against the New England Patriots -- so Chase is running out of time to get up to speed in the offense. It remains to be seen if Chase and the Bengals will be able to work something out on an extension before the regular season kicks off in early September, but either way, the 24-year-old should be viewed as a top-five fantasy pass-catcher with quarterback Joe Burrow (wrist) back and fully healthy. Chase has been a Pro Bowler in each of his three years in the NFL and has gone over 1,000 yards receiving all three years.

Bengals Have Been Impressed With Erick All Jr.

There is a package of plays being carved out for Cincinnati Bengals rookie fourth-round tight end Erick All Jr., and the Bengals have been extremely impressed with him in training camp and the preseason. All had a full workload in the preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night and continued to impress, including a big block coming in motion to spring a Trayveon Williams run. Sixth-round rookie Tanner McLachlan didn't touch the field in the first half on Thursday, indicating that the Bengals won't be keeping him on the 53-man roster. The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. expects the Bengals to prioritize keeping undrafted free agent Cam Grandy. The 23-year-old All caught his lone target for 10 yards against Indy. All is versatile, but he's likely to be more of a blocker in 2024 as he provides depth behind Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample and Tanner Hudson.

Andrei Iosivas Expected To Be WR3 In Cincy

The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. writes that Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Andre Iosivas will soak up the majority of snaps alongside Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins in 11 personnel this year. A small supporting cast among tight end Mike Gesicki, Charlie Jones and even Trenton Irwin are expected to rotate in that spot, but Iosivas has earned the WR3 role. Rookie Jermaine Burton isn't expected to contribute anytime soon. There's not enough trust in Burton right now to put him on the field with quarterback Joe Burrow. Iosivas, who caught 15 of 25 targets for 116 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games in his rookie campaign last year, will have an increased role now that Tyler Boyd is no longer in town. However, the former sixth-round speedster from Princeton probably won't see enough targets behind Chase and Higgins to make him worth stashing on the bench in 12-team fantasy leagues.
