Darrynton Evans Makes Case For Roster Spot

Buffalo Bills running back Darrynton Evans(hamstring) made his case to make the final roster in Saturday afternoon's preseason defeat to the visiting Carolina Panthers in Orchard Park, tying for the team lead in receiving with three catches for 28 yards and a touchdown while adding 15 rushing yards on three carries. Evans certainly put together a nice day before leaving with a hamstring injury on Saturday against the Panthers, shedding a tackle and high-stepping his way across the end zone to give the Bills a lead in the second quarter, but his performance was overshadowed by undrafted rookie Frank Gore Jr., who also scored but produced a whopping 101 yards. Evans, 26, is not as likely to make Buffalo's 53-man roster following Gore's standout showing, and he probably wouldn't be any greater than the No. 4 back on the depth chart even if he does stick around.

Bears Cut Tommy Sweeney

The Bears cut tight end Tommy Sweeney on Saturday. He signed a deal with Chicago a few months ago after spending his entire career in Buffalo. The 29-year-old appeared in 24 contests for the Bills. However, he had just 18 catches for 165 yards and one touchdown. With Cole Kmet, Gerald Everett, and Marcedes Lewis on the roster, the Bears are set heading into the 2024-25 campaign. Regarding Sweeney's future, there's a chance he could at least earn a spot on another team throughout the National Football League. Yet, his fantasy value can't get any lower, nor will it improve anytime soon.

Caleb Williams "Always Rises To The Challenge"

Chicago Bears rookie first-round quarterback Caleb Williams, the first overall pick in this year's draft, has made things look effortless at times in the preseason and during training camp. However, there have also been times when Williams shows he's still a rookie while processing how to dissect coverages he's seeing for the first time. Beyond the splashy plays, the ability to navigate pressure and pull things off that can't be taught, what has impressed coaches and teammates the most has been seeing Williams find the answers to what's stumping him in real time. "In terms of what I learned from him is what I've said all along: He always rises to the challenge," head coach Matt Eberflus said. The 22-year-old was the most pro-ready QB prospect in the draft and has all the weapons he needs in Chicago to make a serious rookie-year impact for the Bears and fantasy managers.

Tyler Scott Leads Bears In Receiving Thursday Night

Chicago Bears wide receiver Tyler Scott caught six passes for 99 yards in the team's 34-21 preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He also rushed once for 17 yards to place the Bears in the red zone for an eventual touchdown. With several wide receivers resting and others injured, Scott played well into the second half. He still has the inside track to be fourth on the wide receiver depth chart behind DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and rookie first-round pick Rome Odunze. The 2023 fourth-round pick caught 17 passes for 168 yards in his rookie season.

Travis Homer With Little Production In Starting Role

Chicago Bears running back Travis Homer rushed the ball four times for 13 yards and did not catch either of his targets in the team's preseason win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Homer got the start alongside other Chicago reserves and played a couple of series. The veteran's contributions on special teams may be enough for him to make the final roster. However, with Velus Jones Jr. making the transition to running back, it could spell trouble for the sixth-year veteran. If he does survive the final cuts, he'll be behind D'Andre Swift, Khalil Herbert, and Roschon Johnson on the running back depth chart.
