After getting roughed up in his first start during the Seoul Series against the Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto bounced back nicely in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals. Yamamoto came out firing, striking out the first batter of the game on three pitches, proceeded to strike out the side, and ended up tossing five innings of scoreless baseball. He allowed just two hits in the outing, didn't walk a batter, and struck out five. Now that's what the Dodgers expected when they signed the 25-year-old in the offseason. His next start lines up with the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley.
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto only lasted one inning in his regular season debut versus the San Diego Padres on Thursday. Yamamoto was hit hard and allowed four hits, five runs and one walk, but did record two strikeouts. The 25-year-old out of Japan came over with huge expectations after signing a 12-year, $325 million contract this offseason. Although it is still plenty early to write the book on the righty, he also struggled mightily in the Spring Training to the tune of an ugly 8.38 ERA, but had 14 strikeouts over 9 2/3 innings. The strikeouts have been about the only thing going for Yamamoto in his young career, but he was one of the highest touted pitchers to come over from overseas to the MLB and the potential is certainly there for him to turn things around. Despite the unfavorable results early on, he might make for a good buy-low option to acquire from managers that have already hit the panic button.
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitchers Tyler Glasnow and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will pitch the first and second games of the regular season, respectively in Korea against the San Diego Padres. Glasnow has looked sharp so far this spring, while Yamamoto has struggled in limited appearances. Both pitchers should serve as high-end fantasy options this season, as Yamamoto was perhaps the most hyped free-agent pitcher this off-season and Glasnow has shown dominance in the big leagues when he was healthy with the Rays.
Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto wasn't nearly as sharp in his second spring start, a 12-9 Cactus League win over the Chicago White Sox. Yamamoto threw three innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits, three walks, and four strikeouts. Despite what the box score might suggest, the righty wasn't hit all that hard as three of the six hits were infield singles and a fourth hit was a bunt single. The three walks in three innings were a bit surprising, however, but the good news is he still averaged more than a K per inning and hasn't given up a long ball through five spring innings. The 25-year-old will look to get back on track next time out.
Both Los Angeles Dodgers right-handers Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Tyler Glasnow are being lined up to pitch in the two-game series in Korea against the division-rival San Diego Padres on March 20-21. Yamamoto is scheduled to throw three to four innings against the Chicago White Sox in a Cactus League game on Wednesday, while Glasnow will go four innings in a B game. Both Yamamoto and Glasnow will be low-end No. 1 starting options for fantasy managers in the early rounds of upcoming fantasy drafts. The 25-year-old Yamamoto was dominant in Japan and is expected to have a seamless transition in the States in 2024 while serving as LA's ace. Glasnow has already showed dominance in the big leagues with the Rays, but staying healthy has been his issue.
