Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Wade Miley had his club option declined according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. Miley was only able to make two starts in 2024 to the tune of a 6.43 ERA and 1.43 WHIP before undergoing season-ending elbow surgery. The southpaw would be entering his 15th MLB season in 2025 and faces a tall task to rebound from that procedure if he decides to continue pitching. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status during the offseason as he could serve as a back-end option to a rotation if he decides to continue his professional career. In 2023, the left-hander posted a solid 3.14 ERA, 1.14 WHIP with a 9-4 record.
Milwaukee Brewers veteran left-hander Wade Miley (elbow) needs Tommy John surgery and will spend the next 10 to 12 months rehabbing and then decide whether to continue his career. It's a tough break for the 37-year-old southpaw and the Brewers. Fantasy baseball managers that were stashing Miley in deeper leagues can now officially let go. "I've always said I want to go out on my own [terms]," Miley said. "I still feel like I've got more in the tank." While it sounds like the 14-year veteran wants to give it a shot to come back at some point in 2025, it's fair to wonder if he's already thrown his final pitch in the big leagues. Even if Miley rehabs for a comeback next season, he'll be off the radar in most fantasy formats. The former 43rd overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2008 out of Southeastern Louisiana gave up five earned runs with four walks and two K's in his two starts in 2024.
The Milwaukee Brewers placed left-hander Wade Miley (elbow) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 19) with left-elbow inflammation on Monday. In other moves, the team recalled right-hander Tobias Myers from Triple-A Nashville, reinstated first baseman Jake Bauers from the bereavement list, and optioned infielder Andruw Monasterio to Nashville. The 37-year-old Miley started the 2024 season on the injured list with a left-shoulder injury and he also missed time in 2023 with elbow and lat ailments. Miley is set to undergo tests on Tuesday and could be out for an extended amount of time. Myers is the most logical choice to fill in for Miley on Tuesday and start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Miley already wasn't really an attractive option for fantasy managers in deep-mixed leagues before the injury.
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Wade Miley (shoulder) is scheduled to come off the injured list to make his season debut on Wednesday night versus the Reds on the road in Cincinnati. Miley threw 55 pitches for Triple-A Nashville in his final minor-league rehab start and gave up one run on two hits while walking two and striking out three. The 37-year-old southpaw's first start in the big leagues this year with Milwaukee will be an abbreviated start, which means that fantasy baseball managers looking for a low-cost streaming option on Wednesday should avoid him, especially in the difficult matchup in a hitter-friendly ballpark. Miley isn't your typical swing-and-miss pitcher. Instead, he relies on generating soft contact and keeping hitters off balance. Injuries have been an issue as he ages, too, so he's mostly a fantasy option in NL-only leagues.
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Wade Miley (shoulder) threw three simulated innings at Citi Field last week and two more simulated innings at American Family Field on Monday and is now scheduled to start for Triple-A Nashville in a rehab game on Friday. Miley would like his next outing after that to be with the Brewers, but that will depend on clearance from the medical staff. He's eligible to be activated from the 15-day injured list as soon as April 9 in Cincinnati. The 37-year-old southpaw was delayed at the start of spring training due to shoulder soreness and was eventually diagnosed with a left-shoulder impingement. The soft-tossing lefty will have a rotation spot waiting for him, but his lack of strikeout upside makes him one to avoid in most mixed fantasy leagues, and we certainly wouldn't suggest streaming him if he makes his 2024 debut versus the Reds.
