New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso went 1-for-4 with a walk and two-run homer in Wednesday's victory against the rival New York Yankees. Alonso crushed a two-run homer off Gerrit Cole in the top of the fourth inning to give the Mets a 3-2 lead at the time and it was all Mets from there. Alonso hasn't put up the big power numbers from his 2023 campaign but he is still having a solid season with a .240 batting average to go along with 20 homers and 53 RBI. The upcoming free-agent has stated he wants to stay with the Mets and is likely to remain on the roster past the deadline with the Mets five games over .500. No matter the uniform, Alonso is one of the best first baseman in the game.
On Monday, New York Mets All-Star first baseman Pete Alonso said he would prefer to remain with the team despite trade rumors surrounding him. Alonso said "he loves the organization" and wants to help the team reach the postseason. He entered the break hitting .240/.319/.454 with 19 homers, 51 RBI, and 53 runs scored with a .772 OPS. After a slow start, Alonso has hit .270/.345/.460 with five homers, 19 RBI, and 15 runs scored over the past month. Fantasy managers will continue to hang onto Alonso, regardless of whether he remains with the Mets or has a new address after the trade deadline.
Rival MLB teams who have expressed interest in New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso are convinced that Alonso will definitely stay put as long as the Mets are within five games of the wild-card race. After their extra-inning win over the division-rival Washington Nationals on Monday, the Mets are the first team currently on the outside looking in of the National League wild-card race, sitting 1.5 games back of the St. Louis Cardinals. They are 13-4 in their last 17 games, so as of now, the Mets appear ready to make a run at the postseason with Alonso in the fold. The three-time All-Star and former NL Rookie of the Year is an elite power bat for the Mets and fantasy managers after hitting 40-plus homers each of the previous two seasons. Alonso is also hitting .245 (76-for-310) after hitting a career-low .217 in 2023.
New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has been off to an extremely slow start to the season. However, the right-handed slugger was able to find a spark during Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. Alonso went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI during the blowout win. This five-RBI performance matched his total amount of runs driven in coming into that contest. Fantasy managers are hopeful that this is a sign of Alonso finally getting back on track.
New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso (hand) had a scare with a hand injury in the series finale against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday but is back in the starting lineup on Friday for the second game of the series against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks after sitting out on Thursday. Alonso is back at first base and is hitting second on Friday versus D-backs left-hander Jordan Montgomery. X-rays and a CT scan came back negative on the 29-year-old's right hand after he was hit by a pitch by a James Paxton fastball in the first inning on Wednesday. In six career at-bats against Montgomery, Alonso is hitting just .167 with two RBI, but fantasy managers will want to get him back in there in all formats. Alonso already has 12 homers and 26 RBI with a .235 average (50-for-213) for the Mets this year.
