Detroit Tigers outfielder Mark Canha (hip) remains out of the starting lineup again on Saturday. The 35-year-old was a late scratch on Friday and will once again be sitting out due to hip discomfort. Chris McCosky reports that there is no inclination that Canha will not go on the injured list and that the team will wait until how his hip holds up for the time being. Rookie Colt Keith will slot in as the designated hitter and bat fifth this afternoon, which opens up the keystone for Zach McKinstry, who will bat in the seven-hole. Keith is worth a look in DFS as he has posted a strong .378 AVG with two home runs in his past eleven games. He will face Red Sox right-hander Cooper Criswell who enters Saturday with a 4.19 ERA.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Mark Canha (hip) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Boston Red Sox, This is bad timing with outfielder Kerry Carpenter (back) also sidelined currently. Hopefully this is only a minor issue, and Canha won't require a stint on the injured list. In the meantime, Andy Ibanez will replace him in the lineup, with Colt Keith serving as the designated hitter on Friday against Red Sox right-hander Tanner Houck.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Mark Canha (illness) is back in the starting lineup on Friday as the designated hitter and is batting third against the visiting Houston Astros and left-hander Framber Valdez. Canha missed two games earlier this week while battling an upper-respiratory illness, but he's obviously feeling better now and is back in there for the series opener this weekend in Detroit. The 35-year-old veteran outfielder/designated hitter is batting .248 (29-for-117) on the year with five home runs and 16 RBI in his 34 games played. Canha has had decent success against left-handed pitchers in his career and shouldn't be ignored in this one in DFS now that he's past his illness. In his 14 career at-bats against Valdez, he's hitting .286 with one RBI as well.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Mark Canha (illness) is out of the starting lineup again on Wednesday against the Cleveland Guardians due to an upper respiratory infection. "He's not feeling well. It hasn't been a great road trip health-wise (for the team), so we're kind of quarantining him at this point to get him away from the rest of us until further notice," manager A.J. Hinch said. It will be the second straight game missed for the 35-year-old, who is hitting .248 (29-for-117) so far in 2024 with five home runs, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored for the Tigers. Check back on Friday to see if Canha is feeling good enough to play in the series opener against the Houston Astros after a scheduled off day on Thursday. Colt Keith will serve as the designated hitter and will bat fifth on Wednesday against Guardians right-hander Tanner Bibee.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Mark Canha will take a seat on Monday in the series opener against the Pirates in Pittsburgh. With Canha starting on the bench, Matt Vierling will draw into the starting lineup, playing right field and batting sixth against Pirates right-hander Mitch Keller. Vierling hasn't recorded a hit in just two career at-bats versus Keller and has just three hits in 17 at-bats (.176) with a solo home run and four strikeouts in his first six games of the season. The 35-year-old Canha should be back in Detroit's starting lineup on Tuesday after starting his first year in Detroit by going 6-for-28 (.214) with two long balls, four RBI, a stolen base, four runs scored and eight strikeouts in 36 trips to the plate over his first nine games.
