Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist), who had right-wrist surgery last August, said he was able to start a normal offseason program in late December and will be ready to go for Opening Day at the end of March. Between second base, third base and shortstop in 2025, Rengifo should play regularly for the Angels after hitting .273/.323/.431 with 39 home runs, 133 RBI and 36 stolen bases in 331 games for the Halos the last three seasons. He played in only 78 contests in 2024 due to his wrist injury but hit .300/.347/.417 with six home runs, 30 RBI, a career-high 24 stolen bases and 41 runs scored in 304 plate appearances. In addition to being a utility infielder, Rengifo can play the outfield, giving him plenty of avenues for regular at-bats. He's valuable for infield depth in fantasy leagues because of his high contact rate and his speed, just don't expect much power.

Infielder Luis Rengifo won his salary arbitration case against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday, according to a source. Rengifo will earn $5.95 million in 2025 after the Angels had filed at $5.8 million. Rengifo earned at least a super-utility role for the Halos this year after he hit .300 in his sixth season with the team, although he played in only 78 games in 2024 due to a right-wrist injury that required surgery in August. The 27-year-old's best path to playing time might come at third base with the Angels not guaranteeing regular playing time to the struggling Anthony Rendon. Rengifo's best qualities for fantasy managers are his positional versatility, his speed, and his ability to put the ball in play regularly. He had a career-best 24 stolen bases and is eligible at both second and third base in most fantasy leagues. There's an outside chance he'll see some time at shortstop with Zach Neto (shoulder) potentially missing Opening Day.

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) is set to miss the rest of the regular season after undergoing wrist surgery on Tuesday. This is a shame considering Rengifo was in the middle of a breakout campaign. He was batting .300 with six home runs and a career-high 24 stolen bases in 78 games. However, it's a lost season for the Halos and Rengifo continued to be bothered by a lingering wrist issue. It's best for him to get the issue resolved and come out stronger next season. Fellow infielder Anthony Rendon (back) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday. He figures to see increased playing time with Rengifo out of the picture.

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list with right wrist inflammation on Saturday. He exited Friday's game against the New York Mets early due to a wrist inflammation and will be out for at least 10 days. The Angels purchased Charles Leblanc's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake in a corresponding move. Rengifo is slashing .300/.347/.417 with six home runs, 30 RBI, 41 runs, and 24 stolen bases across 304 plate appearances in 2024. Luis Guillorme and Michael Stefanic should see an uptick in at-bats while Rengifo is sidelined.

Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo (wrist) was removed from Friday night's series opener against the visiting New York Mets with wrist irritation. In his return to Anaheim's lineup following Wednesday's exit with a wrist flare-up after he took a swing in the eighth inning, Rengifo left Friday's game in the fifth inning with a similar issue and was replaced by Brandon Drury at third base. He was 0-for-2 with two strikeouts before departing. At this point, the Angels are fairly likely to send Rengifo to the injured list for the second time this season to get this problem sorted out once and for all. The 27-year-old switch-hitter is enjoying a breakout season, slashing .300/.347/.417 with six home runs, 13 doubles, 41 runs scored, and a career-high 24 stolen bases in 283 at-bats for the Halos. If Rengifo indeed misses additional time, Luis Guillorme and Michael Stefanic could form a platoon for at-bats at the hot corner.
