The Cincinnati Reds acquired outfielder Joey Wiemer and right-hander Jakob Junis from the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night in exchange for right-hander Frankie Montas, according to a source. Wiemer was caught in a roster crunch in Milwaukee in a crowded outfield picture and hit just .154/.185/.154 with a stolen bases in 19 games played after appearing in 132 games in 2023 in his rookie season. The 25-year-old has also disappointed with a .224 average, three homers, 20 RBI and six steals in 53 games at Triple-A Nashville in 2024. Wiemer will operate as minor-league outfield depth for Cincy. Junis, 31, has only made 10 appearances in the big leagues this year due to injury but has been sharp in his 26 innings, posting a career-best 2.42 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, one save and 19 K's. He could be moved to a starting role in Cincy, though, and Junis does have 111 starts in his eight years in the big leagues, potentially making him a deep-league pickup off the waiver wire.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Joey Wiemer (knee) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. The young outfielder was forced to miss 16 days due to left knee soreness. He wasn't playing too well before the injury but figures to at least play in a platoon role going forward. Wiemer will cover center field and bat ninth versus lefty Ryan Weathers on Monday.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Joey Wiemer (knee) is looking at missing multiple weeks of action after suffering an injury earlier in the week. The young outfielder was placed on the 10-day injured list after hurting his knee on Friday. The organization has given a timetable of two or three weeks for Wiemer. This is good news as Wiemer will avoid surgery and only miss a few weeks of action. Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins, and Sal Frelick figure to all see increased playing time while Wiemer and Christian Yelich (back) recover.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Joey Wiemer (knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday with left knee discomfort. Infielder Andruw Monasterio was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Wiemer was removed from Friday's game after injuring his knee when attempting to catch a ball in left field. Wiemer struggled in his first major league season last year with a .204/.283/.362 line. He hit 13 home runs and swiped 11 bags. The 25-year-old carried his struggles into the early part of this season with a disappointing .174/.208/.174 line with no home runs and just one stolen base. The Brewers will have a revolving door in left field for the time being, splitting between Sal Frelick, Jackson Chouiro, and Jake Bauers. Rookie Jackson Chourio was given the nod to man left field in Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs and will face Jameson Taillon, who is entering the game with a stellar 1.50 ERA.
